Vandals damaged gravesite at Elm Grove Cemetery last week cutting a tree near the grave of Mr and Mrs Mere Acton. Mrs Acton reported to The Ava Lance that her husband found the desecration Friday December 18 while visiting the Cox graves. The Cox children Janice 16 and Billy 14 drowned July 7 1968 in a flash flood near Valentine. Earlier, Mrs Mattie McNeil found a pine tree by Corsdia McNeil Crosby’s grave cut down.

The Alpine Chamber of Commerce elected Delbert Dyke Johnny Carpenter Joe Lane and Homer Hudgins to three year terms. Ballots were canvassed December 21 by a panel including Jack Williams Thad Corkins Hugh White and Jeanne Allen. The chamber board has twelve elected and two ex officio members.
Joseph Davidson aged 15 died about 11 p m Monday December 21 at Brewster Memorial Hospital of a heart attack. Funeral services scheduled for 10 a m today in Geeslin Chapel with Rev Jimmy Wayne. burial Restland Cemetery Dallas. Survivors include wife Jewell Matthews daughter Edna Mae Hagle two stepsons Joe W Matthews William B Matthews and two grandchildren.
Local churches announce Christmas Eve and Day services including First Presbyterian Spine St Pauls Marfa St James Alpine Our Lady of Peace Alpine with liturgies carols and special music. Clergy names Rev Miller Rev Cowart and organized church groups invite the community.
In an election contest Moss argues Ivey does not reside in Precinct 4 and that 13 votes for Moss and 3 for Ivey were improperly cast. Ivey claims 41 to 35 victory and seeks declaration as winner. Moss to be sworn in Jan 1, 1971.

On December 25 1683 Juan Do minguez Mendoza led a detachment across the Rio Grande from Mexico, erected a cross on a hill at Presidio and held a special Christmas mass.
