Inflation Sparked Letter Price for Alpine to Ft Stockton
An Alpine firm paid $1.40 to mail a 6¢ letter from Alpine to Fort Stockton. The letter mailed at 4:20 p.m. Monday December 28 would be routed via Midland and arrive Wednesday afternoon two days later. A postal worker suggested using the bus. the letter went via bus at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday and arrived Fort Stockton before noon that day, but at the $1.40 rate.
