First Grass Fires of The Season Reported Past Week
A prairie fire last Friday morning burned several hundred acres on the Cartwright and H L Kobernot Son ranches about five miles north of Alpine. The blaze started when workers burned a fire guard along the Santa Fe railroad and got out of control. Another fire burned about one section on the Smith Bros and Mimms ranches near Marfa five miles west, early last week. With grain the season’s thickest and highest, prairie fires have been feared in this dry fall, but these two are the only notable blazes reported. Miss Florrie Jones is visiting relatives in Stanton during the holiday.

Lions Will Distribute IXmas Cheer In Alpine
