Highland Poultry Show Opens With 250 Birds Expected
The Highland Poultry Association begins its second annual show in the old State Highway shop building at College Avenue and Eighth Street. Dr J B Wright says over 250 birds entered from local farms and adjoining counties with shipments from Corpus Christi and Va Horn. Prof Holmgren conducts lectures on line breeding and outcrossing with a banquet at the Holland Hotel to close the event.

Baines Chosen as Officer Grand Lodge
G W Baines, vice president of the First National Bank, was appointed Grand Junior Deacon of the Texas Masonic Grand Lodge at a Waco meeting. He has long served Alpine Masonry, including as worshipful master and district deputy grand master, with strong prospects for higher office. The Alpine lodge numbers about 160 members and Texas Masonic bodies total 138000. The grand lodge approved a relief fund benefit for Masonic families.

Sanitary survey contract awarded to Armistead firm
A contract was signed for one sanitary survey to be completed by mid January. H. G. Armistead of El Paso will lead the work with a crew of engineers arriving early in the week. The survey will map sewer and water extensions across the built up town and plan for ten year growth based on a projected population of 10 000.

Boys Capture Second Panther Near Santiago Peale
Jr Milam and Charlie Barnam captured a seven foot panther after it broke from a steel trap near Santiago Peale, southeast of Alpine. The youths chased it half a mile, shot the animal from a tree, and reported the dog alerted for more panthers. Also noted is a Wilcox & Anderson gas show at 1820 feet near Marathon.

Sees Great Future For Highland Area
B M Whittaker, exhibit manager of the West Texas chamber of commerce, spoke at a chamber luncheon and predicted agricultural development for the Highland area. He cited bear grass and yucca as potential raw materials for rugs and carpets and urged local cooperation to boost Alpine as a district center. The West Texas chamber motor event will visit Alpine and Fort Davis July 20, with over 200 people already pledging to join.

County Hires Stock Inspector to Monitor Livestock
County commissioners approved hiring four livestock inspectors led by W. C. from the Texas Panhandle to inspect cattle and sheep at regular intervals. Lt. J. B.
