Santa Arrives in Alpine for Saturday Visit
Alpine Chamber confirms Santa Claus will arrive at 12:55 p.m. Saturday at Storms Field for a pre Christmas visit with local children. He will be transported to the Brewster County Courthouse by a red fire truck led by Sheriff Carl Willams and then flown by Bud Courtney of Alpine Aviation.

City College swap land exchange advances in Alpine
Sul Ross State College and the City of Alpine agree on a land swap along U S Highway 90 and Loop Road to realign the highway and provide about 14 acres to the college for new playing fields. A public hearing on the project will be held soon by the highway department.

Alpine Home Lighting Contest Seeks Entries
Alpine residents are reminded of the home lighting and decoration contest sponsored by the Alpine Junior Chamber of Commerce with West Texas Utilities. Three prizes include an electrical post lantern as grand prize. Coupons in today’s Avalanche must be returned to Alpine Jaycees Box 487 by December. Judging by four out-of-town judges on December 22, with winners announced December 23. Oil test drilling by Cactus Drilling Co for PanAmerican Petroleum on Nellie Mae McElroy land four miles north of Alpine off State Highway 118. It is a tight hole and no information will be released.
