Deer contest winners announced for 1966 Big Bend Sports
The Big Bend Sports Club announced deer contest results with Al Brothers of Laredo winning a Model 110 Savage rifle for the largest horn, 113 1/4 points, from Brewster County. GA Parr of Alice placed second with 113 points. Bob Belzle of Garland was third with 111 points. Daily heaviest deer prizes were listed by date across Brewster and Jeff Davis counties. Temperature notes show a 13 degree drop on Saturday morning and 16 degree lows on Monday and Tuesday. City Council approved vacation for police chief posts in December.

Alpine native Navy flier visits after 90 Vietnam missions
Lt. (jg) Gene Turner, radar intercept officer aboard the USS Constellation, arrived in Alpine to visit his parents. He flew 90 combat missions over Vietnam, was shot down on October 225 miles off the coast near Haiphong, and was rescued after an hour in the sea. Turner notes heavy anti aircraft fire and says North Vietnam is heavily defended. He will rejoin the Constellation and possibly return to Vietnam next summer.

Mrs Burling 75 Dies After Long Illness
Mrs Jane L Burling 75 died early Monday December 12 in Valleys Nursing Home after a long illness. Rosary was said at 7 p.m. Funeral was held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Our Lady of Peace Church with burial in Elm Grove Cemetery. She was born April 27 1891 in Batesville and came here in 1919. Survivors include five daughters and six sons, along with grandchildren and great grandchildren.
