Government Week Planned Dec 15 20 at Alpine High School

Plans for City County Government Week at Alpine High School December 16 to 20 are outlined by school officials led by Margaret Morrow and Mrs. Henry Bailey. The program includes forms of municipal government, color advancement, and a panel discussion with Alpine city officials plus an invited speaker Joe Renteria of El Paso.

Pedraza Back of Week at Sul Ross Lone Star polls

Pedraza named back of the week and Carl McCormick named lineman of the week by Lone Star Conference coaches after Sul Ross State College and Howard Payne standout performances. Pedraza threw for 248 yards and two scores in a 42 15 upset of New Mexico State while McCormick helped HPC beat Hardin-Simmons 16 7. Dr Raymond B Seymour will speak at the American Chemical Society meeting in Houston on carbon hydrogen stretching frequencies.

Alpine Girls Enter Make It with Wool Svent

Candy Weston leads Brewster County at El Paso district Make It Yourself With Wool contest in senior division with an ensemble dress and coat. Linda Powers and Sue Bradford enter junior division with a two piece suit and casual dress. Weston previously won district junior honors and received state honorable mention for best suited garment.

Death Takes Earl Reaves

Funeral services were held Monday afternoon in the First Baptist Church for Earl Reaves 69 a retired dairy farmer. He died Saturday Nov 30 in Brewster County Memorial Hospital. Survivors include the widow Ruth one son Raymond Edward Reaves El Paso and two grandchildren Gary Alan and Sharon Kay Reaves of El Paso. The body was shipped to Sheldon Mo for burial. Active pallbearers were Ralph Gray East Anderau Bob bs Ray Morrow Ray Morison all of Alpine Frank Grier of Pecos.

Deans Attend Southern Association Meeting in Memphis

Sul Ross State College officials Dr. L. Harlan Ford academic dean and Dr. Frances M. Phillips dean of the graduate division travel to Memphis Tennessee for the annual meeting of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. They plan to return Thursday.

Tarleton to Play Lobos Next Tuesday Night

Tarleton State College faces Sul Ross State College in Stephenville next Tuesday in a key nonconference clash. The Lobos, led by Jack Fryman, have struggled from the floor this season and must raise their shooting percentage to stay competitive against Tarleton.

Carr Visit Postponed by Texas Attorney General

Texas Attorney General Waggoner Carr postpones a weekend trip to Alpine due to a court of inquiry on the Kennedy assassination. He informed State Rep Gene Henryx and Bluebonnet State Governor Margaret Morrow of the change. He was to speak at Alpine High School and Sul Ross State College and attend a coffee event.

Tuck awarded KU chemistry graduate fellowship

Charles M. Tuck Sul Ross State College senior and 1960 Alpine High School graduate receives a graduate chemistry fellowship at the University of Kansas. He is president of the Sul Ross student affiliate of the American Chemical Society and a Gamma Sigma Epsilon member.
