Mexico Orders Work On Ojinaga Highway
The Mexican secretary of public works sent engineers to Chihuahua City to study a paved highway to Ojinaga. Aerial photos will map routes to the border city and to Barranca del Cobre and Sonora. Officials say the road is vital for regional economy. Raul Maus led the push and visited the Big Bend area in October.

Many Hunters Back in Area Big Bend Deer Season Heats Up
Blacktail deer hunting is in full force in the Big Bend area. The season runs through December 12, with many hunters already having taken deer and others arriving for the next two weekends. Campsites fill with Jeeps airplanes and trailers as groups return from the Arthur Ranch Witchey Young and sons Don and Buddy Fort Worth join the hunt. Rex Ivey Sanford DeVoll and others organize multiple groups while Grady Nelon reports 175 deer in his locker and Freddy Davis with a 180 pound dressed buck. A recent cold spell aided hunting efforts.

Ben Barnes, widely regarded as a leading young Texas official, will address Sul Ross State College students and Big Bend residents Tuesday at 10 a.m. in the Main Auditorium. Teacher Study Committee To Hear Fringe Benefit Hearings
A Texas legislative subcommittee will hold hearings at Sul Ross State College in the Little Theatre at 4 p.m. Tuesday on fringe benefits for college faculty. The Snelson Madden panel will gather faculty views on retirement, insurance and travel policies to inform recommended legislation for the 60th Legislature. Senator Snelson is a Midland businessman and former college staffer. Madden is an Amarillo attorney and ex UT Board of Regents member.

November Rain Totals in Alpine Reach .66 Inches
Alpine recorded .66 inches of rainfall in November with .33 inches on the 9th and 11th. The year to date reached 12.71 inches, up from 10.43 inches over the same period in 1964, while October had no measurable moisture.
