Temporary bridge to restore traffic on southern trans continental route

Floods forced closure of Highway 90 with a bridge washout and river rise. The Highway Department rapidly installed a temporary span and crews work around the clock to reopen the corridor between Van Horn and San Antonio. A permanent bridge costing about a million dollars is planned. The flood also damaged the Southern Pacific railroad marooning the west bound Limited for over a week and disrupting through traffic. Towns along the highway suffer economically due to the closure of this key east west tourist route between the West coast and San Antonio.
