Alpine High School Band Readies Details for Clinic on Sul Ross Campus
Alpine High School Band participates in a weeklong clinic on Sul Ross Campus starting today with marching practice, full band rehearsal, instrumental sectional sessions, and All-Star Band rehearsals. About 75 members form the 1956-57 Alpine Band, featuring precision drill and new maneuvers for football games.

In Marfa on Sunday the Big Bend Pistol Club hosted an NRA approved shoot at the Border Patrol Range. Stanton’s J N Woody Jr won the 38 caliber 3 gun aggregate with 1384. Ralph Fabian Pecos took expert with 120. Billy Roberts Marfa earned sharpshooter with 1207 and Arthur Yakimov won marksman with 121. The next NRA event at Marfa is scheduled for Sunday Sept 16 with the 45 caliber pistol as the major gun.

Mrs Matthews Relocates To El Paso For Teaching Role
Mrs. Wilmoth Matthews and children Ellen Brian and L H move to El Paso where she will teach science at the new William H Burgess High School completed last year. The children attend A H Hughey School near Normandy Addition and will live at 6310 St To. She has taught, studied, and led civic groups in Alpine and has extensive PTA and D A R service, with family ties to El Paso education and Alpine leadership. Also noted is a local quip about reducing drinking by cutting chasers.
