Mountain Sheep May Move to Big Bend Area in West Texas
Austin August 18 An inquiry into deaths among the remnant Diablo mountains sheep and the feasibility of moving them to the Chisos range in the proposed Big Bend park area was outlined by Will J. Tucker secretary of the State Game Commission. Investigations show only about 150 sheep remain in Texas dying one by one possibly from diseases contracted from domestic sheep. A transfer to the Chisos faces many difficulties including habitat suitability and predator control by federal authorities. Trapping and transport would require horse and mule packing as trucks cannot reach the range.

A new oil test is planned in Brewster County within days on the O2 ranch about 46 miles south of Alpine. Fred Turner Jr. of Midland will drill a 3000 acre block for Humble Oil and Refining on See 39, block A2, GH and H. The O2 ranch, a 400000 acre property in Brewster and Presidio counties, is owned by Aetna Life Insurance and partly leased to M. G. Michaelis with some land stocked. Eight inch casing will be set at the Decie test four miles northwest of Marathon to control water delays. Chester Dewey drills on Sec 45, B4, GC&SF, where about 200 feet had been drilled before suspension. Be patriotic Buy gave bonds and stamps today.
