Four men injured in downtown beer parlor fray
Four men sustained knife wounds in a downtown beer parlor disturbance last Friday night. Morris Franklin, a Presidio county ranchman, suffered serious wounds to the left shoulder and chest but was improving. P C Coats Anderson and Bill Wallace were cut across the abdomen and thigh respectively, while George Lines, the proprietor, suffered a cut on the hand. M B Slim Causey of Alpine was arrested after a preliminary hearing before Justice Raymond Garnett, bond set at 2000, and he could not meet it. Some victims were bystanders uninvolved in the melee.

Former Alpine Resident McCollum Dies in San Angelo Hospital
RC McCollum 66, longtime Alpine rancher who later lived in Hamilton, died last Friday in a San Angelo hospital after an extended illness. He had moved to Alpine in 1926 to ranch near the Glass Mountains, later retired and moved to Hamilton with his wife Mel and their youngest son. Funeral services were held Friday at Massey Funeral Home in San Angelo, with burial in Mertzon Cemetery. Survivors include his wife, three sons F L, Edwin, RC Jr 20, and three daughters, plus two brothers and two sisters in several cities. The article notes prior ranching in Ozona and Mericon country.

Massive turnout marks West Texas Commun ity Day barbecue
About 3500 people from Texas and New Mexico attended the annual Commun ity Day celebration at Kobernot Park last Friday and Saturday. The barbecue fed roughly 1500 with ample leftovers and was served in an hour. Volunteers from Rotary, 20.30 clubs, and local groups, plus ranchers and merchants, helped, while dancers and a water carnival drew crowds. Clear weather and high spirits highlighted the two days of events.
