Alpine Bucks Football Schedule Faces New Coach Boze Ansley

Alpine announces a nine game football schedule for the Fighting Bucks under new head coach Boze Ansley. The varsity opens Sept 8 at Monahans, with home games against Pecos Sept 15 and Fort Stockton Sept 22 and other road trips including Big Lake Parkland and Marfa, plus late season dates through Nov 19 against McCamey.

Plane Found Three Dead in Mount Livermore Wreck

Wreckage on the northeast side of Mount Livermore yielded three dead men after a four day search. Victims: James Gastineau of Tulsa pilot. Bill Patton of Cherokee and Duke Demaranville of Sioux City. They were on a cattle buying mission from Marfa to Wichita Falls, departed Aug. 11. Crash spotted by Civil Air Patrol member Bill Dunnham in a Border Patrol plane. Border Patrolmen Kermit McKnight and David Robertson later reached the scene.

Water well built by Orem serves business and leisure near Alpine

Howard L. Orem completed a 245 foot sandstone well southwest of Alpine used for washing gravel at Orem Sand& Gravel Co. irrigating a fruit orchard and filling a 3 million gallon tank with 290 gpm flow. He plans another well to 1199 feet into limestone and a 4 acre lake to collect runoff.

Hancock Rites Held for Marathon Ranchman Edgar Hancock

Edgar Hancock, 88, of Marathon died Aug. 13 at Brewster County Hospital after a heart attack. A Marathon native since 1912, he ran the star mail route to Hot Springs from 1915 to 1955 and was a Baptist. Funeral services were Aug. 15 at Marathon Baptist Church with burial in Marathon Cemetery. He was survived by two daughters, a grandson, and three great grandchildren.

Parks Board to Discuss Baines Memorial Park Plan

The Paris Parks Board will meet at 730 p.m. Monday August 21 in City Hall. Chairman Royal Fisler invites public input on developing the Baines Memorial Park to be located just east of Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church.

County OKs 1963 Budget by Brewster County Commission

Brewster County Commissioners Court approved a 289 365 budget for the year ending December 31 1968 at its regular meeting. The court also requested 45 225 49 from the Board of County and District Road Indebtedness in Austin as its share of surplus from the lateral road account. They asked the county judge to obtain repair estimates for the Old Marathon Rad and the courthouse parking area. An allocation of 2 799 was approved to the Alpine Municipal Airport Board for airport maintenance. An expense payment of 15 was authorized to Tom Leary for attendance at the County Service Office School in Austin September 11 14.

Highland Apartments Open for Rent Near Sul Ross Campus

Alpine announces the 38 unit Highland Apartments ready for occupancy Wednesday August 30. Manager Arthur Davis says each one bedroom unit is fully furnished with an all electric kitchen and utilities paid except telephone. Located south of Sul Ross State College campus across U.S. Highway 90.

Alpine area Kicks Off School Registration for 1960-61

Alpine Public Schools announce sign up for seniors and juniors today with other grades registering through Aug. 28. Centennial and Central Schools modify times to accommodate first grade morning pre registrations and locate grades by rooms. In service days Aug. 24 25 and first full day Aug. 28 with meals 35 to 40 cents and Labor Day Sept 4 holiday.

Capt Jimmy Wright son of the late Dr and Mrs Joel Wright is visiting Alpine for a few days. He is stationed at Grand Forks AFB North Dakota. He will travel to Austin to visit his sisters Betsey and Esther. Mrs Wallis H Wood formerly Elinor Ray visits Mr Frank O Ray. Mrs Wood is from San Bernardino California.
