Local Schools to Open Aug 28 Fort Davis Campmeeting Week

The 78th annual Bloys Campmeeting opens August 15 with a service led by Rev W L Van Auken Fort Davis. Four ministers from Baptist Disciples of Christ Methodist and Schreiner Institute Kerrville will preach during the weeklong event near Fort Davis. The grounds feature six eating kitchens serving thousands.

Funeral services held for Mrs. R. A. Bow in Alpine

Mrs. R. A. Bow died suddenly while vacationing in Latara, Colorado, Aug. 4. She and husband owned City Drug in Alpine since 1946 after earlier ventures in Odessa, Whitewright, and Boise. Burial at Elm Grove Cemetery followed 4 p.m. services at First Baptist Church with Rev. James Best officiating. survivors include husband and three sons, two sisters, two brothers, grandchildren and step-grandchildren.

Alpine school district plans a 1967 68 budget of 642 769 75 an increase of 32 146 75. Revenues include local 29 376 state 116 524 from scholastic census 1 351 at 86 25, state funds 232 298 for salaries and operations, and miscellaneous sources. Budget hearing set for Aug 17.

Wildcat drill planned in Brewster County as oil activity resumes near Alpine with a 5000-foot well by San Antonio’s Beer in Pate Ranch area.

Houston Astro Baseball Camp Opens Here Today

About 150 to 200 young players from Texas Arizona New Mexico and Oklahoma attend a Houston Astros tryout camp at Kokernot Field led by Pat Gillick with local coaches Stan Holmig and Lee Balanfont. The event runs Thursday through Saturday with a concluding game and admission proceeds funding a future Pony League.

MecNeils to Visit White House for Ivory Coast Leaders

Dr Norman L McNeil and Mrs McNeil of Sul Ross State College will visit the White House August 16 17 as guests of President and Mrs Johnson. They will attend a White House luncheon honoring Ivory Coast President Houphouet de Boigny and his wife with a pass to enter the South Gate. They fly from San Antonio to Washington on Wednesday August 16.

Chamber Manager Phil Ebensberger resigns to become program director at KVLF. The board will hire a full time secretary and operate without a manager for several months. Patrolman Jack O’Donald joins Alpine patrol force

Patro•lman Jack O’Donald of Fabens recently graduated from the State Highway Patrol School in Austin and arrived in Alpine to work with Patrolman Jean Pate. He is a Fabens High School graduate and attended Texas Western College in El Paso. He is single.
