Lions Lose Two Contests In Junior Softball Loop

The Lions dropped two games in a doubleheader with the Panthers and Alps in the junior softball league. Panthers won 2-0 after a disputed out at the plate with bases loaded. Lions were scoreless until the fourth when two runs crossed on an error and three more before the final out. Manuel Malendiz earned the Panthers win. Earl Willbanks took the losses for Shreveport, La., despite solid outings.

Alpine Schools Set to Open September 10 1945 48 Term

Alpine public schools will open September 10 for the 1945 48 term. Hugh Waldrum announced that only four faculty vacancies remain. High school registration is September 7 with seniors at 9 am juniors 10 30 am sophomores 1 pm freshmen 2 30 pm. Students taking Rand should report to Mr Carrico at the high school September 4 10 am. The announced high school faculty list includes principal W Robbins and teachers including Mrs Freda Powell Mrs F G Walker and others. assignment details are tentative and the list incomplete.

Alpine Yanks Triumph Over Marfa Indians 13 to 3

The Alpine Yanks defeated the Marfa Indians 13 to 3 in Marfa last Sunday. Shortstop Her man Gonzales led with four hits including a three-base hit and scored three runs. A Leyva added a two-base hit as second baseman. Pitcher M Alarcon and catcher A Leyva formed the battery.

Gasoline rationing ended with V J Day. Tire inspection requires holders every six months or five thousand miles. a New Mileage Rationing Record is needed for gasoline rations.

Commissioners Seek Legion Service Officer for Brewster County

Granada Theatre Renovation Under Way

Renovation and improvement work is underway at the Granada theatre. Manager C. W. Davis says new tile will be installed on the front, lobby, and rest rooms, and the entire interior will be redecorated and repainted this week.

Cemetery Association Nets 282 From Bridge And 42 Benefit Party

The Alpine Cemetery Association raised 282 dollars from a Bridge and 42 benefit party held at the USC Tuesday evening. Mrs Zeb Decie led the bridge event and Mrs G. Morrison oversaw 42. refreshments were managed by Mrs Chal mers Broadfoot and Mrs T A Beard. Prizes totaled six for bridge players and three for 42 players. All prizes and refreshments were donated. The association thanks supporters for strong turnout.

Post War Road Plans Drawn for Big Bend National Park

National Park Service outlines tentative three year program for roads and facilities in Big Bend including 918000 second year allotment for Persimmon Gap to Chisos area road realignment and 627000 first year total across 1.195 million for the Boquillas corridor. Demaray notes major road network length about 90 miles with existing graded routes in good condition and minor improvements planned for Basin and Santa Elena canyon. Horse trails, administration buildings, utilities and lodging facilities are part of the proposed three year development, subject to final plans and costs.

Grass Burns Across Dry Davies Mountains Region

Dry weather continues with scattered showers in the Davis mountains Big Bend area. Ranchers report extensive grass burning despite light rains in Marathon and Fort Davis, with traces in Alpine on Thursday and Saturday. Sul Ross College to Award 9 Degrees at Summer Exercises
