City considers tougher stance on wandering dogs and cats
At Tuesday's meeting city council members discussed stricter animal control. State Group to Act on Split Road Plan
Testimony from a July 30 public hearing on re routing U S 90 and U S 67 traffic from Holland Avenue into two one way lanes will be forwarded to the State Highway Commission in ten days The plan would split the highway with east bound traffic on the current routes and west bound traffic on a reconstructed Holland Avenue The commission will review and the Bureau of Public Roads in Washington will make the final decision If approved a public notice will appear in The Avalanche and a design hearing will follow including driveways drainage sidewalks and curbs The hearing emphasized officials represent the city or county not individuals and noted the need for right of way from the Southern Pacific railroad to widen the avenue

Alpine Country Club to Host Annual Low Ball Tournament
The club will hold a two day low ball tournament on Aug. 8 and 9 at Alpine Country Club. Jake Gorman urged contestants to register by 8 a.m. Saturday golfers play 18 holes at their convenience with a shotgun start for all flights. All flights play 18 holes Saturday and Sunday and the championship flight will complete 27 holes on Sunday.

The housing authority invites the public to view three low cost housing projects on Sunday August 10 from 2 to 6 pm. Herman Bennetts Inc. Brownwood completed the contract. Civic Center plans near final approval by City Council
City Council members will meet with Arlo Gill next Tuesday for final approval of plans to convert the old bowling alley into a civic center and to call for bids. Gill said bids could be invited 40 days after approval, about Sept 15, with completion possible in six weeks if pushed.
