Alpine Country Club Golf Tournament Opens Weekend
Qualifying rounds for Alpine Country Club's annual invitation golf tournament must be submitted by 2 p.m. Saturday. Thirty entrants will compete over 27 holes starting Sunday sunrise for prizes including Walter Hagen woods irons and golf cars. Dinner and Calcutta are planned at the country club with Charles Boreing as tournament chair.

Five New Teachers Assigned by Alpine Trustees
Alpine Public School Trustees approved five new teachers replacing resignations and shifting roles. Antelope Season Opens October First in Trans Pecos
State Game officials announce an eight day antelope season in Trans Pecos from October 1 to October 8, 1969. Last year 1062 bucks and 245 does were killed there with 1846 permits issued for both sexes. Officials expect buck and overall kill numbers to be similar to last year.

Alpine Cowboys Aim For Closure In Doubleheader
The Alpine Cowboys host Carlsbad Potashers in a 6:30 p.m. doubleheader to cap a homestand. Sore pitching arms since July have hurt the club’s standing, with Carl Carlson recalled by Raleigh Club and Jerry Herron brought in as a rookie to replace him. Herron debuted Tuesday night and is slated to start one game while the team heads to Hobbs and Odessa for a five day road trip and a 4 day home stand against the Dodgers and Dukes. Toni is paired with the Alpine Chamber of Commerce and Ann with the Fort Davis Study Club. Sinda Callan of Menard will be crowned Miss Mohair tonight. Twenty six contestants from Angora goat country compete for the 1961 Miss Mohair title.

Dormitory Named Victor J. Smith Hall at Sal Ross College
Sal Ross State College staff member Victor J. Smith, honored posthumously, has a dormitory named for him. Board of Regents approved the naming in Austin. The 89 percent complete dormitory should finish by Sept. 1 and be occupied by boys this fall. Riley Gourley visited Pecos and hosted a barbecue at the Blalock home with guests.

O K Tire Shop Fire Destroys Building on West Holland
A roaring blaze engulfed the O. K. Tire Shop on West Holland Avenue yesterday afternoon. Owner S. D. Vick salvaged several new and recapped tires while fire crews limited damage to nearby properties. A worker starting a tire ignition caused the inferno, forcing 15 volunteer firefighters to battle the flames as spectators watched and traffic was rerouted on U S Highway 9.
