Alpine figures plan the 112th Grand Conclave of the Grand Commandery Knights Templar of Texas in Odessa May 14. Hal Burnett of Alpine directs arrangements as right eminent grand commander. Local commandery members handle banquet, reception, information and hospitality, publicity, and public relations. A devotional service is set for May 2 and a banquet with speaker Wilber Brucker is scheduled May 3 at the Ector County Coliseum. Framed photographs will be given to attendees.

The Sul Ross State College Lobo Band will give its annual spring concert Sunday at 2:30 p.m. in the Main Auditorium with free admission. H. J. Jackson directs and soloist Charles Hurt on alto saxophone headlines selections including Marches and Jose and a Spiritual from Symphony No. 5. Debbie Jones, 13, is hospitalized in Houston with serious illness.

Big Bend Players to Stage Who Hubie in May
The Big Bend Players premiere a one act comedy Who Hubie written by Dr Elton Miles of Sul Ross College in May at the Alpine Community Center. The production features Carl Bear Lloyd Agre Barbara Becker Elaine Long Russell Long and Jay Blumenfeld with The Proposal by Anton Chekhov on the bill. Directed and designed by Mr Blumenfeld both plays will be staged in May with dates to be announced.

Fred Gulibur 53 of Marathon died at Brewster County Memorial Hospital after a long illness. Born July 20 1911 in Brady he lived in Marathon 43 years and worked for Black Gap Game Preserve before joining Parks and Wildlife. Funeral Friday at Marathon First Methodist Church with burial at Marathon Cemetery. survivors include wife Nita four daughters two sons two sisters and 10 grandchildren.

M J Becker Promoted To National Recreation Area Post
Fort Davis pioneer Michael J Becker, first Fort Davis National Historic Site superintendent, is promoted to become the first superintendent of Sanford Reservoir National Recreation Area with headquarters in Borger Texas. Secretary Udall announced the move stating Becker will assume the new post May 2 after the Canadian River dam project near Borger was completed.

The Alpine Cemetery Association reports proceeds from their barbecue dinner average around $1,000. A full report will appear next week in the Avalanche as some tickets remain unsold. Robert Bristol pastor of the First Christian Church in Alpine was hospitalized after a one car crash 17 miles east of Bakersfield on U.S. 290. He suffered two broken ribs while traveling alone to a church event. Also noted, Jayce members Dick Bowers Morris Alfie and Jim Rice attended the Jayce state convention in El Paso on April 24 and 25.
