Mrs G W Worthington entertained honoring 1997 graduates Ned Moorefield Volta Walker Phillip Worthington and Ned McKinney at a lovely Friday party. A color scheme and decorations set a festive tone with Cerise accents. Games and contests entertained about 24 guests into the late hour.
The Wednesday Study Club session featured Mrs R Arnott leading a discussion on Wild Birds and Wild Flowers with input from Mesdames Worthington Varna Dream and Van Sickle of Alpine. Attendees and visitors included Mr John Marshall of Horder Rubber on a New York trip, Mrs Stuckey and Mrs Van Sickle, and several local residents visiting relatives or on ranch work.
Dozier Real Estate Co lists ranch properties cattle oil leases and town property in Marathon Texas. The notice highlights available parcels for purchase or lease adjacent to local ranching and energy activity with emphasis on land use options for developers and investors.

Alpine residents joined Marta Oddfellows for the 108th anniversary at Marfa Lodge in a refined and elegant reception. Panl Grand Master J. Mr Pouns led speeches with Mrs Hopton also presenting addresses. A full Alpine attendee list was not available though many local names joined the celebration and entertained visitors.

W F Hudman new owner of Alpine Jewelry said Mrs Leo Howell would manage the business. Howell has been in the store the past week, getting acquainted with stock and retail operations. Col John Perkins will act as valuable assistant as Alpine seeks capable leadership. The Alpine community also discussed the Big Bend Roundup and upcoming chamber meetings to plan accommodations for a West Texas party, with broader interest in Fort Davis and Sul Ross College. Local officials and Orient Railroad representatives attended, noting summer rates and cooperative plans for regional development.
Officers for the new year were elected by acclamation including President Mrs Geo W Baines and Secretary Mrs Ray Spence. Committees named to plan a senior party, a big summer bridge benefit, and to purchase a clock. The ninth grade won the monthly banner. May meeting on the 26th.
County clerk and tax collector offices reported a slow week with little real estate activity. Only two new car registrations and several royalty deeds plus some 60 acre tract transfers in eastern Brewster county noted. Notable item: deed from Easter & Maxon El Paso to E A Petsley Alpine for block 62 in Gillis addition. Consideration $8500. H L Kobernot Jr registered a Chevrolet roadster. Vivian Rojo of Alpine obtained a Ford roadster license. Marriage licenses issued to two or three Mexican couples.
Rev Avariste Pies reports rising interest in the Union Mexican Sunday School taught by Senoras Jesusa Arriola and Julio Fierro. Last Sunday 21 attended as Rey Pleazo noted. On Easter Sunday a union service at Patsate camp ground drew about 100 people, with use of the grounds offered by the Baptist assembly.
