Misses Boysen Skinner Lead Alpine High Graduates

Deborah Kay Boysen is valedictorian with a 96.45 grade average and Jacobina Skinner is salutatorian at Alpine High School for the 1966 67 senior class. Boysen held multiple student government roles, national honors, FA conformities and was named Campus Favorite.

Woman Mayor Presides As Alpine Council Sets New Sewer Rates

Alpine's council, with Councilwoman Dorothy McBride presiding in the mayor's absence, approves higher Brewster County Memorial Hospital sewer charges from 15 to 25 dollars monthly and assigns Valle Hs rest home a Commercial Class I rate of 3 dollars monthly plus 25 cents per additional fixture, with outside-city scaling. The meeting also updates traffic stop signs, police dispatcher salaries, and city planning for a new municipal park.

Sul Ross State College gets $2.52 million for 1967 68

The House Appropriations Committee approved a $2,519,009 post for Sul Ross State College for the 1967 68 year starting Sept. 1. Rep. Gene Hendryx said the bill will be taken up by the full House next Tuesday then go to the Senate. The package includes remodeling funds, campus projects, and salary raises for the president and faculty.

Bands to Play Concert on May 2 at Alpine High School

On Tuesday May 2 at 730 p.m. bands from grades 4 through high school will perform in the Alpine High School Auditorium. All public school patrons are invited with parents of band students especially urged to attend to hear the bands’ accomplishments. Miss Ann McMurray is band director.

District VEW Meeting Opens Here Saturday

Six posts will be represented at the District 27 Veterans of Foreign Wars and Auxiliary spring convention to be held in Alpine Saturday and Sunday, April 29 and 30. Delegates are expected from Alpine, Sanderson, McCamey, Pecos, Fort Davis and Marathon. O Cy Smith of Alpine is commander. The convention opens at 3 p m Saturday with registration at the VFW Home. A dance at the Holland Hotel that night and a barbecue at noon Sunday at the VFW Home precede talks by Dr Norman McNeil of Sul Ross. A VFW business meeting follows at 1:30 p m and the Auxiliary meeting will be held at Newman Hall. Billie L. Dorris of Austin is expected to attend. Alpine Post No 727 officers include O C Smith commander, Pete Carrasco senior vice commander, Joe Gallego junior vice-commander, James Gonzales quartermaster, John Sotello judge advocate, Lewis Gordon chaplain, Carlos Torres surgeon, Robert Lafarelle 3 year trustee.

Turn Clocks Ahead One Hour Sunday April 30

Notice urges moving clocks forward one hour for daylight saving time beginning Sunday at 2 a.m. Alpine stores and many firms plan to adjust hours Saturday night April 29. Schools will shift ahead Friday evening with regular classes resumed Monday morning. DST rules vary by state with exceptions.

Sul Ross to Host History Contest With Nine Area High Schools

More than 100 students from nine area high schools will compete on the Sul Ross campus Friday April 28. Participants register at 9:15 a.m. after an assembly, then the history contest begins. It is sponsored by Sul Ross history faculty and includes essay and objective questions.
