Vogt Named Councilman After Tie Vote At City Meeting

At the regular council session Mayor Homer Hudgins broke a 2 2 tie between Vogt and Votan to name Vogt to the city council. Dr Malone Hill was appointed city health officer and Mrs Mac Ament reappointed corporation court judge. Jack Johnson was reappointed chief of police.

Trailer Rally Set For Fort Davis This Week

About 30 to 40 people in 15 to 20 trailers will attend the Fort Davis Air Stream Rally at Davis Mountains State Park. The Odessa unit of the Wally Byam Caravan Club International sponsors the event with Alpine members aiding. Activities include a Friday trailer hookup, a Saturday business meeting, a 7:30 p.m. program by Sept. Franklin Smith at the old fort auditorium, and a Sunday outdoor devotional.

Central PTA appoints 1967 68 officers at meeting

At the Central Cafeteria meeting new PTA officers for 1967 68 were elected to be installed next meeting Mrs Harlan L Ford president Mrs Jean Neville vice president Mrs Willard Johnson second vice president Mrs Jim Lewis secretary and Mrs Richard Alexander treasurer The group discussed adding afternoon meetings and ongoing playground equipment planning along with Headstart and other programs to aid disadvantaged children.

Dr John B Holt associate dean at Perkins School of Theology Dallas will speak here Tuesday and Wednesday as the second guest of the Spiritual Emphasis Series He will address the Alpine Ministerial Alliance at 8 pm Tuesday and speak at 10 am Wednesday at the Sul Ross State College Main Auditorium on A New Man for a New Age The speaker is Abilene born and has held key church school roles and pastored in Waco and Manila Philippines

Sohl Heads Alpine School Board In Special Meeting

William J. Bill Sohl was elected president of the Alpine School Board at a special meeting Monday night. Neville Haynes was succeeded. Pete A. Gallego was chosen vice-president and Albert V. Bob Halpern named secretary. Halpern and Eva Jeanne Mills drew new three year terms.

Jaycee Banquet Set for Saturday in Alpine

State Rep. Gene Hendryx of Alpine will be the guest speaker at the Alpine Junior Chamber of Commerce Distinguished Service Award and Boss Night banquet. The event at Sul Ross State College cafeteria begins at p.m. with installation of officers and awards. Master of ceremonies will be Harlan Ford, dean of Sul Ross.

Betsey Wright Named Texas Young Democrats President

Betsey Wright of Alpine, UT student at the University of Texas and daughter of the late Dr and Mrs Joel Wright, was named president of the Texas Young Democrats at the state convention in Austin. The group endorsed 4 year terms for statewide officials with a 2 term limit. They approved lowering the voting age to 18, minimum wage measures, and public education through four years of college. They backed open housing, civil rights, voter registration, and pay for teachers near $6,500 yearly. They also urged repeal of Taft Hartley 14B, supported open housing, and praised President Johnson on Vietnam peace efforts.

Walker Books To Be Sold At Alpine Cemetery BBQ

Alpine Cemetery Association officials announce a Saturday barbecue at the American Legion Home on April 22 from 11 30 a m to 2 p m. Mrs Katherine Walker’s book Flora Fauna and Fickle Weather will be sold with proceeds funding the Memorial Fence under construction. The volume covers Big Bend area plans animals and weather and was donated by Mrs Walker for her grandchildren after a first run sold out.

Alpine Free Parking Planned for Spring Festival Week

Alpine City Council approved free parking during the Spring Festival sales event May 3-6. The move followed a request by Phil W. Ebensberger of the Alpine Chamber of Commerce on behalf of the Business Promotion Committee to support merchants. Council members also discussed water, sewer line extensions and a planned storage dam and lake in Sunny Glen with input from Ken Esmond and former Mayor Bill Winter.

National Airport Plan Urges West Texas Airport Upgrades

The 5-year National Airport Plan for 1968–1972 recommends Alpine and other West Texas airports receive development land, clear zones, aprons, taxiways, runways, obstruction removal, and miscellaneous improvements. Congressman White notes the report sets goals without pledges of funds.
