Alpine Boy Wounded on Western Front Reported April 6
Francisco Villalva, 22, was advised by telegram from the War Department that he is seriously wounded in action in Germany. He had served about four months in the infantry and had been in the army nine months. His last letter home was dated March 7. He worked at the air field before enlisting.

Burglar Attempt Fails At Alpine Store Last Friday Night
Unsuccessful crime at Storey-Whiteside Lor. Co. details a would-be burglar who tried to crack the safe and set a fire to cover the act. Tools such as a wrecking bar screwdrivers pliers a drill and a butcher knife were found near the safe. Distillate was poured and ignited but caused little damage. Entry via broken window and exit through east door observed around 6 am Saturday. No items reported missing.

Alpine Boy Leads in Texas Tech judging event
Paul Weyerts of Alpine FFA led the livestock judging contest at Texas Tech University in Lubbock with 37 points, top in sheep division and third in dairy cattle. Alpine placed third in dairy cattle, fifth in hogs, and third overall in all judging divisions. Poultry placed third. teammates were Eddie Martin Drexel Toombs and Joe Moss.

Local residents aid clothing drive for Ukraine relief

Local Highland rains bring varied moisture across week
Heavy rain and hail swept the Highland area last Thursday with totals from half an inch to several inches. Kokernot Ranch north of Alpine suffered roof damage from hail, plus other ranches including Kokernot Pruett and Blas Rodriguez reported several inches. Marathon and surrounding areas saw good rainfall with wind damage, fences washed out near Marathon and Weston ranch. Alpine recorded 42 inches of precipitation.
