Brewster county residents are slow to respond to the Seventh War Loan starting last Monday. G W Baines, chairman, is ill in a Dallas hospital and will be out several days. The county quota for E bonds is $100,000, higher than the $65,000 Sixth War Loan, which was oversubscribed by about 60 percent.

Charles V Galliego is back home after three years and five months in the Navy with 36 months actual sea duty in the Pacific. A signalman aboard a destroyer, he was injured during the Leyte engagement on December 7 and spent time in naval hospitals in Astoria and Corpus Christi. Alpine citizens observed a day of remembrance for President Franklin D Roosevelt with all businesses closing 1 to 9 p m. Flags flew at half mast as about 800 people gathered at Sul Ross auditorium for a memorial service led by Rev Marvin Williams of the Pastors Alliance. The program included odes prayers and tributes from Dr H W Morelock and J C Epperson with readings by J S Batey and Rev F S Rogers.

Annual Round Up Of Boy Scouts At Alpine District Depot Square
Alpine district Scouts staged their annual Round Up on Depot Square over Friday night and Saturday morning. Scouts from seven troops and a new Cub Pack joined in campfire songs, stunts, and contests supervised by Lavell and Don Littleton.
