Jackson Speaker At CC Meet Held Here Last Friday Night

Saxette Band Performs for Alpine Lions Club Program
Central Ward school Saxette Band directed by John L Carrico presented a varied program for the Alpine Lions Club at the Holland Hotel luncheon. The five month old band showcased band and solo numbers with members including Terry, Coleman, Crawford, Ne Hike, Carson, Jurdam, Smith, Henderson, Pope, Scannell, Woodward and Woodward. The group is part of Alpine schools instrumental plan led by Director Bowies and Carrico with plans for concerts in Alpine, new ties and a May festival. The Avalanche corrects an error about the infant daughter of Mr and Mrs Forrest Walker of Austin. the child Gwendolyn Ruth is alive per her great grandmother.

Quartet Explores Saint Helena Canyon in Far West Texas
A four person party led by Rev. Mill Hill of Marfa Methodists traversed the Santa Helena canyon in the Rio Grande near the Big Bend area. They used two skiffs at the canyon mouth and hiked to a hazardous ledge, noting 23 rapids and 1600 foot walls. Rev. Hill praised the canyon’s grandeur, comparing it to Royal Gorge.

Mitre Peak Resort Set for Mid Month Opening
Mitre Peak Resort north of the Alps ranch is under renovation by Mr and Mrs Arthur Blucher formerly of Corpus Christi. The opening is planned for mid month with cottages in Fern Canyon ready. A recreational room is enlarged and swimming pool deepened. Meals will be served and a commissary run by the Bluchers who are well known locally.
