Teen Talk AHS elects new Student Council officers
AHS selects a new Student Council with Garrett Briggs as president and Cate Janis French as vice president. Paula Oates is secretary and Barbara Davis treasurer. class representatives will be elected next Monday. District UIL winners head to Lubbock for regional competition while seniors run KVLF Senior Day. The Buck Band marches in San Antonio and Air Force Band concert features two AHS students.

Marathon Students Enter Regional Interscholastic League Meet
Marathon High School students Faith Smith Karen Stumberg Wallace Schoots and Sherry Thompson will compete in the regional meet in Odessa Saturday. In District 87B events last week Karen Stumberg Wallace Schoots Faith Smith led in slide rule and number sense while Sherry Thompson Juanita Rios placed in typewriting and Faith Smith science and other events. Funeral services for Hal B. Sansom and his wife were held in Midland after a two car wreck on April 2. Relatives and friends traveled from Marathon as pallbearers included local and Midland men. Debra Sansom and community events such as PTA activities, Bridge Club gathering, and visits by residents from Alpine, Marfa, and Odessa filled the week with notices of births parties and travel.

Lions Hear Eye Conservation Report at Club Meeting
The Eyesight Conservation committee presented the Lions Club report at the Tuesday meeting. Members included Duane Smith Jack Bow and Roy Whiteside with guests Mrs Roy Whiteside Mrs Norman Beard and Dr Tom Coats who helped with glasses and eye tests. Also present were Roscoe Morgan Ramona Fierro and Linda McCollum. Mr and Mrs F L McCollum traveled to San Angelo the prior Wednesday for the funeral of E F Atkinson 82 a retired ranch man who died April 9.

Mustangs Enter Odessa Track Meet
Four Marathon runners Ronnie Lee G E Martin Robert Haynes and Feliciano Reyes will compete in the Odessa regional track meet Saturday. Marathon scored 103 points at last week’s District 87B meet led by Lee Reyes and Martin with multiple top finishes including firsts in the 100 yd dash and 220 yd dash. Marathon Elementary topped District 101 with 39 points and a relay victory by Fuentes Jones Fierro and Estrada.
