The Trans Pecos past and El Paso origin story

The Doniphan expedition spurred Anglo American settlement at El Paso, with Texans and Texas Rangers aiding in pushing back Native groups. By 1852 a Franklin post office existed, renamed El Paso in 1889, and forts like Fort Bliss, Fort Davis and Fort Stockton formed frontier defense. The era saw emigrants use the Paso del Norte route, establish goods stores, and the area evolve amid military posts and Indian conflicts until railroad and state forces solidified control.
