Sul Ross hosts Gamma tote Alpha Pol Omega drama tourney
The Gamma tote chapter of Alpha Pol Omega with Mask & Slipper Club of Sul Ross College hosts a regional drama tournament this weekend. Twelve colleges compete as 80 players perform four plays nightly, with Trinity University Howard Payne Abilene Christian and Texas Tech among last night’s participants. Tonight and tomorrow feature four more plays, with Texas A&M Kingsville College of Mines El Paso Texas Christian University Mary Hardin Baylor Southern University McMurry and University of Houston in the lineup. Evening shows begin at 8 oclock in the college auditorium. Season tickets are $1 and single admissions are 40 cents.

Heavy Loss In Fire At Castalon Rancho Cartledge Farm
A Thursday night blaze at Castalon Rancho s Cartledge farm on the Rio Grande caused heavy losses. Two large cypress water tanks and a barn were destroyed along with hay saddles bridles and harness. Several head of livestock including horses mules and eight fat yearling calves ready for market were burned. Origin of the fire is unknown.

Alpine Teachers Get 2 Percent Salary Increase
Alpine school board raised salaries for all teachers by about 2 percent at a Tuesday night meeting. Drury Wood, the superintendent, said new term teachers are being chosen and a full faculty list will be announced soon. Re-elected superintendent and key principals were named.

City expands water supply with old College Hill well
Mayor Moody announced the old College Hill well, abandoned years ago, now operates a 128 gallon turbine pump from the South Hill plant. The well adds about 50 000 gallons daily from a new source, supplementing existing reservoirs behind Sul Ross College and at South Hill. The East well investment is nearly 30 000 dollars with monthly net revenue under 50 dollars. If needed, another well will be drilled.

Foster Binion Dies At Fort Stockton After Illness
Foster Binion, about 24, brother of Van and Forrest Binion of this city, died at Fort Stockton yesterday morning after a yearlong cancer illness. Buried there yesterday afternoon at five. He lived here several months before moving to Fort Stockton to work at the Modern Garage run by Van. He leaves a widow, Louise Yeager, married here just over a year. The Binion families left yesterday morning to attend the funeral.

Alpine High Band Shines At Parade And Contest
The newly formed Alpine High School band, only six months old, gave the finest showing among bands at the Legion convention parade and contest.
