Sul Ross Cowboys Impress Tech Coach With Recruit Power

Texas Tech coach Bert Huffman says Sul Ross State Cowboys are the best around and faster than the Yankees. Harry C. Gage notes Sul Ross superb talent impressing Tech, pulling recruits like Southwest Conference schools. Sul Ross swept Tech in a three game set, with Lobos Gibbons and Huelle able to join AAA clubs.

Fluorspar Firm Plans Fence Around Alpine Plant Site

Framspar Inc. awards J. M. Eichholtz a contract to build a six foot high chain link fence around a halfacre fluorspar plant site north of Alpine on the Santa Fe Railway east of the airport. The move follows a delayed removal of a Salida mill to Alpine due to heavy snow. The mill would process fluorspar mined in Chinahua and Coahuila. Me Bake Turner, son of Mr and Mrs Beke Turner, is home for the holidays from Texas Tech.

Brewster County Commissioners Court asked the State Highway Commission to approve a rand to market road from U S 385 south of Marathon to the Rio Grande.

Mrs Whiteside Buried Here In Alpine

Mary Adeline Whiteside of Alpine died at her home Friday night April 12. Funeral services were held Monday at First Methodist Church with two pastors officiating. She leaves husband Roy and three or more children including Mrs Burr Thornton and Mrs G C McDaniel Jr, plus a son John Richard Whiteside. Also survived by a brother, seven grandchildren, and earlier life in Mangum Oklahoma. Burial in Elm Grove Cemetery.

Central PFA to Sponsor Play Young Arthur and Merlin

Eastman Kodak to Display Big Bend Park Scenes at World's Fair

Eastman Kodak Co will showcase huge 8 by 10 inch color photos of Big Bend National Park and nearby ranch scenes at Grand Central Station and the 1964 65 World's Fair. A Kodak crew led by Ray Holden and Robert Phillips works with Park Service officials to shoot images later enlarged for display on Kodak's pavilion tower viewed by millions. Local residents are to appear in the photographs and the team plans to return to Alpine to begin ranch pictures at Kennedy Ranch.

Lobos set to clash with Bearkats in Huntsville series

Sul Ross heads to Huntsville for a four game set with Sam Houston State Friday through Saturday, then hosts the last two games in Alpine April 26 and 27. Jerry Tyson and Ed Schafer will start the initial games as Sul Ross rides a 16-3 season, ranked 25th nationally, with Daryle Gibbons, Paul Pasqua, and Wilbur Huckle among leading hitters.

Alpine Men Will Host Local Meet

School officials from seven Trans Pecos communities will attend a Big Bend Men's Association meeting Monday in Alpine. Hosts are Alpine Public School, with Sanderson Marfa Marathon Van Horn Pyote Balmorhea represented. Principal speaker Charles B. Hamilton of the Texas State Teachers Association will be introduced by Alpine Superintendent Jack Frost.

Professor Wins State Conservation Award at Fort Worth Dinner

W. E. quill Williams of Sul Ross State College will receive a state award in the Fort Worth Press Save the Soil and Save Texas Conservation Awards program. He will get a plaque for an elfins service by a non farmer at the awards dinner in Far Worth May 4. Region I district winner Bend Soil Conservation and No 227 will receive a 30 cent award at a San Angelo dinner May 10. In Region IIIl essay contests Alpine Ana Maria Terrazaso placed sixth and Marfa’s Crais Barney seventh, each to receive medals. William B. Mr and Mrs Mickey Logar spent Easter visiting Harriet Logans parents and brother with Mr and Mrs Hany Carpenter and Johnny. Mickey is a University of Texas senior and Harriet teaches in Austin schools.
