Salvation Army Unit Is Formed In Alpine County

The Salvation Army establishes a Alpine Service Unit led by Joe L. Moore of Midland as field representative. A local committee of citizens, including Mayor W I Winter and Police Chief Jack Johnson, organizes to support youth programs, disaster aid, and rehabilitation with a county-wide fundraising drive forthcoming.

CD Hospital Moved To Hill Building Alpine Area

Civil Defense hospital equipment from Sul Ross State College moved to Hill Building first floor adjoining The Avalanche in Alpine. Over 300 crates hold gear for 200 beds with space rented for 50 dollars monthly. Alonzo Honl credits Alpine Lumber Storey Whiteside Weyerts, J C Cooley, Sul Ross College for cooperation.

Alpine Wins UIL Meet Sharply Dominate District Champions

Alpine repeated as district champions in the Interscholastic League Academic and Literary contest at McCamey, scoring 216 points to Sonora 104 and McCamey 99. Most placers were underclassmen with only five seniors. District 7-4 champs advance to Lubbock for regional on April 20. In tennis, Jey Heil and Joe Freddy Granado took first place.

Easter Services Announced by Alpine Churches

Alpine announces a Good Friday service at 7:30 p.m. in the First Christian Church led by Rev. Earl Dunn with Rev. Bob Bristol hosting. An Easter sunrise service at 7 a.m. at Kokemot Field features Rev. Clanton Newbill planning and Rev. Clyde Chesnutt preaching, with a 40-voice choir under Dr. Robert Calder. A Lord's Supper gathering occurs Thursday at 7:30 p.m. in the First Presbyterian Church with three churches participating.

Ed Foley and Billy Holland Elected to Alpine School Board

Ed Foley and Billy Holland were elected to the Alpine School Board in last Saturday's voting and sworn in at Tuesday night's meeting. Foley led with 262 votes, Holland had 215, with other write-ins and precinct results noted. The board reorganization kept William Soll as president Neville Haynes as vice president and Albert Halpern as secretary, while approving the 1963-64 calendar, insurance payments, and an April 22 Big Bend Men’s Association dinner at Alpine Public School Cafeteria. Ernest Sotelo Gallego, son of Mrs. John Gallego, was promoted to senior master sergeant. he is stationed in Fort Worth.

Lions Club Sale Set In Alpine Next Tuesday

The Lions Club broom and mop van arrives in Alpine on Tuesday April 16 to canvass the city for an eye care fund. Officials say proceeds fund eye examinations surgeries and glasses. Merchandise includes brushes rags aprons and mops with prices from 25 cents to 6 50 and opening at 8 a m.

Alpine and Brewster Jeff Davis 4-H FFA Teams Dominate Livestock Judging

Alpine FFA teams captured two firsts and a third to win the FRA division sweepstakes at Sul Ross State College. Alpine’s grass and wool teams topped district contests, with high point individuals Adamson and Edmondson leading, while Brewster Jeff Davis 4-H senior team won first at the District 6 Livestock Judging Elimination with scores led by Brewster Jeff Davis at 1602.
