Easter crowds fill Davis Mountains State Park
About 3500 to 4000 people visited Davis Mountains State Park on Easter Sunday. Manager Lou Walker said the weather was ideal and campers filled the Indian Lodge area, with as many as 68 cars in the campground. Most visitors came from Pecos Odessa and Midland.

Pioneer West Texas cattleman John F. Lane laid to rest
Funeral services for John F. Lane were held at 3 p m Saturday at the First Methodist Church with Rev. R R Reed officiating. Burial followed at Elm Grove Cemetery under Livingson Funeral Home direction. Lane died Thursday night at his Ranger Canyon ranch near Alpine. He was born February 22 1867 in Gaines County Texas and married Allie G East in San Angelo in 1892. Survived by seven of eight children and 12 grandchildren 14 great grandchildren. Lane helped organize Upton County and served as county commissioner and was president of the First State Bank at Rankin. The family moved to Alpine in 1937 purchasing the Ranger Canyon ranch from Jim P Wilson.

E. G. Zeke Rivera of Alpine announces his bid for county commissioner of Precinct 2 subject to the Democratic primary July 26. A 20 year Alpine Lumber employee, he has two children, Zeke Jr. and Hermilinda, and is a VFW member and former Our Lady of Peace Church Credit Union president. He served in the European Theater during WWII and was Democratic precinct chairman.
