Alpine Wins Tennis and Track District Meet
Alpine led the district in tennis with 26 points while Crane took 38 to claim top overall. Fort Stockton placed third with 2 points, Denver City 15 and Seminole 12 for 4th and 5th. In junior and senior girls and boys events, Alpine produced multiple winners in singles and doubles as Mc Camey failed to win a tennis match. The district trophy was presented at Alpine High Auditorium by Principal James Crawford and Student Council president Billy Davis. The district track meet is set for Monahans on Saturday, April 18.

Richard Turner Named Fort Stockton Group Manager
Richard E Turner has been named Fort Stockton telephone group manager with April 6 effective date. He began as a Wichita Falls splicer’s helper in 1958 and rose through roles including coin collector, business representative, commercial representative, and staff assistant before moving to Lubbock. He is married with two children, attends Methodist Church, and enjoys bowling and tennis. Best wishes to Richard as he leads a major regional team.

Big Bend TV Jewelry and Music Co. hires Linn F England of Fort Worth to head its television and radio repair shop. England, a Los Angeles Radio-TV School graduate with nine years experience, recently completed a graduate course at Southern College of Commerce and Electronics in Fort Worth. He served as TV serviceman at Goodyear TV in Sweetwater for nine years and moved to Fort Worth in January for further training. His wife and two children live at 708 E Holland. They are Baptists.

Park Ranger Morey to lead Arizona park system chief
District Park Ranger Charles Robert Morey of Big Bend National Park is transferring to Saguaro National Monument in Arizona as chief park ranger. Supt. George W. Miller announced the move set for next week. Morey has previously served at Theodore Roosevelt NM, Yellowstone, Everglades and Badlands.

The Health Center, a new Alpine business at 510 W Holland, is run by Elbert F Culley and wife Faye Culley. The couple, who moved from Santa Fe New Mexico, promote a health shop and massage salon with vitamin products. They have operated in health services since 1947.

Equalization Board Begins Work Monday in Alpine
City of Alpine's board of equalization will start sessions on Monday April 13. Tax rolls will be reviewed and property owners whose valuations are deemed excessive will receive notices. Escobedo Rites Are Conducted Fort Davis Native Buried
Mrs. Jose Escobedo died at her home in Fort Davis on March 2. Born July 16 1916 in Marfa Texas she was buried in St Josephs Cemetery Fort Davis. Survived by husband Jose and six children Catarina Carmen Jose Jr Jesus Roberto and Francisca plus siblings. Out of town relatives attended from Big Spring El Paso Pecos and Sanderson. Pallbearers listed. Also a note on Mysore Indian blankets noting their delicate weave.
