Increase Shown In Auto Licenses for 1943
Auto licenses for 1943 in the county total 1293 by April 1, up about 100 from last year’s 1195. Issuance continues and the final annual total is expected to rise. The rise is blamed on registrations by army and civilian personnel at the flying school. Registrations include 916 passenger cars 244 commercial vehicles and 133 farm vehicles.
Aviation Cadet Dies After RAF School Crash
Aviation Cadet George H Hallin died last Thursday night three days after a crash during flight instruction at the advanced flying school here. He was the son of Mr and Mrs Hugo Hallin of Eugene Oregon and husband of Mae Morris of Portland. Lt. William M Hoover of Los Angeles piloted the plane and died a few hours after the crash.

To Train WAACs At Sul Ross College
Pvt. Joseph Raffo of Oakland California travels with blood in his eye as he pursues the sender of a telegram meant to disrupt his approaching marriage to Miss Irene Bonne. After securing a furlough to wed, Raffo got a message promising a rendezvous with Mabel, whom he suspects is a GI ally. The wedding is planned for this month.

Lieut. Richard L. Burcham of Alpine received a second pair of aerial gunners wings at Harlingen Army Gunnery School Texas, adding to his observer wings. After five weeks of training he qualified as sky spy earlier at Brooks Field. He will join a combat unit. Observers learned to handle 30 and 50 caliber guns and practiced leading targets and range estimation.
