April 15 Car Inspection Deadline Urged for 1970 Rules
Motorists are reminded that the April 15 deadline for car inspections is approaching. Inspect stations should be visited early due to longer inspection times. The 1970 requirements include: complete exhaust, seat belts on 1964+ models, functioning windshield wipers, good steering, operable smog control on 1968+ models, horn and lights, intact lug bolts, repair or replacement of bent wheels, and brakes meeting standards.

Census teams begin Big Bend count in Texas counties
U S Census crews start duties April 1 in Brewster Presidio and Terrell counties with 16 person Alpine led team under Mrs Eunice Vincent. Stamp issuance place moved to Alpine Center
Effective April 8 food stamps will be issued at the Alpine Community Center 402 E Ave G replacing the Community Action Building. The schedule remains 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. on the first and third Wednesdays each month with state welfare staff handling issuance and certification. Mrs. Cecil Duncan has returned to Alpine after visiting relatives in Lubbock. Debbie Boyson Cooley recently had hand surgery.
