J. B. Miller, Auctioneer, reminds buyers of UCC and current stock including about 1100 head of ewes and lambs for sale. Collins Morrison saddles stock offered. Local notices report James Bellwood and family leaving for Long Beach California for health reasons and various social visits and real estate activity.
Hemingford resident Ernest Oldag visits the city. Farmers ship cattle this week and report heavy sheep and lamb counts. Mrs. Everett Eldred of Orlando visits Mrs. C. A. Newberry. Mrs. B. Mewhirter improves. Frank Putman family trip to Bridgeport for pleasure and business. Bert Perry buys North Box Butte lot to build in spring. Local clerk Claud Brown tours Alliance. The Herald promotes weekly issue and subscriptions. Church notices, baptist youth reception, and services are listed along with marriage invitation for Elizabeth Elmore and J. William Reed at Holy Rosary. Population praise as One Hundred Twenty-six new subscribers in ten days boost Herald circulation. Paragraph on Frank Connor’s return from Emerald Isle and view of Alliance’s growth. The week closes with praise from Bayard Transcript about Mr Maurin’s around the world letters and Herald typography.
The Catholic fair this week at the opera house drew broad support especially from youths. Tasteful booths with needle work silver and porcelain items, and a popular candy and lemonade stand drew praise. Supper by ladies impressed with quality and service. Michael Elmore won the hand painted vase from number 14. The fair closes tonight at 11 o clock with more raffles and a bridal doll to come. organizers anticipate a handsome sum and lasting good will in the city.
In county court W E Ashbaugh faces two trespassing charges tied to duck season hunting on his property. On September 19 he allegedly allowed friends to hunt. three ducks were given to Ashbaugh's sons. Each defendant received a $5 fine and costs. Ashbaugh's family attended as witnesses.
A five day mission begins at the Episcopal church next Sunday led by Rev. Dean Cope of the Cathedral, Laramie. Services will include Holy Communion, sermons, instruction sessions, and an answer box for questions, aiming at spiritual awakening and gospel presentation.
A 1902 note from McGuffey Ohio encloses a 2.25 P O order paying for three six months subscriptions starting with Dr Horn letters. The letter mentions Dr E C Horn as well known in central Ohio and sends love to his family from Alliance Nebraska and Jennie Garlinger G S McGuffey Mrs W W Shadley.
George Darling for furniture and W L Jewell a Lawn precinct stockman paid up subscriptions in Alliance. C K Snow of this city named editorial writer on the Gold Digger. Rev C H Burleigh of Lakeside visiting Crawford for Northwest Nebraska and Black Hills conference report. C E McFall from Lakeside accompanied sister to Alliance, sister boarding for Denver. McFall extends subscription praising the Harate.
On November 3 and 4 in Duncan's addition the comedic duo Brose and Clemens present a two night program featuring a musical demonstration on nearly every instrument and humorous sketches. Reserved seats go on sale Monday with prices 50 cents in gallery 45 cents and 25 cents for children. Included are notes on local residents Bakewell Primrose Dowler Naomi Danner John McNulty and Baby Bales amid updates on births illnesses and visits around the area.
