Decoration Day Observed at Alliance With Union Services

Decoration day Tuesday May 30 observed at the Phelan Opera House Alliance under G A R and Spanish War Veterans. Services begin 2 p m with martial music, prayers by Rev W F McNeill and Rev James B Brown, readings by Rev Father Mi Namara, and performances by Alliance High School orchestra. A procession to Greenwood Cemetery follows for grave decoration.

Grant County Teachers Institute at Alliance

County Supt. M L Wheeler of Hyannis is in Alliance arranging with Supts Pate and Reed to hold the annual teachers institute for Grant county here this year in connection with the Alliance State Junior Normal. The Alliance Junior Normal will have a strong faculty, benefiting Grant county teachers at little extra cost.

President Sparks Visits Alliance

President Joseph Sparks of Chadron State Normal school stopped in Alliance early this week on his way to Kearney. Supt Pate, Alliance city schools, graduated from high school under Sparks and they shared a pleasant visit during his stop in the city.

Misfortune follows R A Charlton in Denver move

Ralph A. Charlton of Alliance Nebraska arrived in Denver to establish his home. While supervising the transfer of his household goods at the freight depot the piano slipped from workers and struck him causing a broken right leg. He was taken to the county hospital. his wife remained at the Columbia hotel.

Morris County Ranchman Visits Alliance on Land Deals

George Cramer of Morrill County, a prosperous ranchman living nine miles north of Dalton, visited Alliance on Monday to discuss purchasing isolated land tracts. The Herald reporter dined with him at Dismner's Cafe and they discussed western Nebraska. J W Moore runs a well kept barber shop in the old Herald building beside O Keefe's land office and handles Grand Island steam laundry business.

The Alliance Junior Normal and County Institute announces sessions starting June with Principal W. R. Pate and a staff including Registrar Della M. Reed and Supt. C. N. Walton.
