Decoration day Tuesday May 30 observed at the Phelan Opera House Alliance under G A R and Spanish War Veterans. Services begin 2 p m with martial music, prayers by Rev W F McNeill and Rev James B Brown, readings by Rev Father Mi Namara, and performances by Alliance High School orchestra. A procession to Greenwood Cemetery follows for grave decoration.
In churches across the United States G A R and Sprueh Wer veterans will attend a special Sunday at the Baptist church. The pastor will preach The Supreme Gift of Patriotism in the morning and The Old Coat in the evening. Mrs Parsons to sing. Franklin McNeill, Pastor.
Notice to KC members to meet at their hall on Tuesday May 30 at 1 30 p m to march as a group to the Opera House for the Decoration Day service signed Recorder.
Next Sunday at Fairview will observe Memorial day with a church service at the 10 o clock hour including an address by John W. Thoms Herald editor. After the service, decoration exercises will be held at the cemetery and a cordial invitation is extended to all to attend.
Relatives of the late Mrs. Ray Dietle in extend thanks to friends for help during the recent funeral. The Daushtera of Isabella and Morris family members are singled out for edifying support, signed by R. J. Dietlein.
The Herald reports a new store opening May 1 at 113 Box Butte Avenue half a block north of Burlington Station on the east side, next to Dismer's Cafe. It advertises very reasonable prices on a fresh stock including flour sugar cans hate outfits shoes dry goods groceries and more with a special car load sale. Manager E Essay invites customers to visit and calls the store the old Frank Dismer stand. Phone 210.
The Herald reviews The Season's Greetings issued by Tage Bros stock agents of South Omaha. It highlights a long list of western customers from Alliance Lakeside Bonner Rene Myannis Angora Mitchell Northport Minatare Morrill Bayard Bridgeport and others for 1910, showing regional reach and client names.
M D Nichols, after installing a modern repairing machine, reports growing patronage at his new address 215 Box Butte Avenue. Prior to leaving Alliance Shoe Store, he operated in a rear room but now benefits from street frontage and better foot traffic. The Herald notes Nick is receiving a large volume of work since relocating.
Mr and Mrs A H Anderson of 915 Box Hutte avenue purchased a fine Kurtaman piano from the Bennett people on Tuesday of this week, adding music to their home.
The Herald reports L. C. Wakeman of Haney Supply Company says the Alliance store now carries a full line of automobile supplies. They will serve local drivers and customers from nearby towns, a move the paper predicts will bring strong trade and appreciation from car owners.
County Supt. M L Wheeler of Hyannis is in Alliance arranging with Supts Pate and Reed to hold the annual teachers institute for Grant county here this year in connection with the Alliance State Junior Normal. The Alliance Junior Normal will have a strong faculty, benefiting Grant county teachers at little extra cost.
President Joseph Sparks of Chadron State Normal school stopped in Alliance early this week on his way to Kearney. Supt Pate, Alliance city schools, graduated from high school under Sparks and they shared a pleasant visit during his stop in the city.
The Herald notes with appreciation the prompt copy supplied by Rev Franklin McNeill, pastor of the Baptist church, for publication on Wednesday. It urges other friends to be equally thoughtful to help publish promptly and fill the paper with pews.
Ralph A. Charlton of Alliance Nebraska arrived in Denver to establish his home. While supervising the transfer of his household goods at the freight depot the piano slipped from workers and struck him causing a broken right leg. He was taken to the county hospital. his wife remained at the Columbia hotel.

George Cramer of Morrill County, a prosperous ranchman living nine miles north of Dalton, visited Alliance on Monday to discuss purchasing isolated land tracts. The Herald reporter dined with him at Dismner's Cafe and they discussed western Nebraska. J W Moore runs a well kept barber shop in the old Herald building beside O Keefe's land office and handles Grand Island steam laundry business.
Public auction at Brennan's corner Alliance on Saturday May 27 starting 1 30 p m. Items include 1 Jersey cow 1 wagon with box 1 wagon with rack 1 carriage 1 single buggy 1 organ and other household goods. W L Butts owner H P Coursey auctioneer.
The Alliance Junior Normal and County Institute announces sessions starting June with Principal W. R. Pate and a staff including Registrar Della M. Reed and Supt. C. N. Walton. Professors from Lincoln and Nebraska City will teach English literature geography and nature study with stereoptical demonstrations. Community housing offers low rates for teachers to aid enrollment and comfort.
The Yeomen met in their hall and voted 42 members for adoption with 20 present. C. E. Matteson led the program with C. A. Hamrick assisting, followed by a reception and toasts by Prof. G. M. Buns. The goal is to reach 100 members before the work ends.
Notice to furnish rooms for Junior Normal students requests suppliers to notify Miss Della M. Reel county superintendent and Junior Normal registrar. The request references a ledger entry 242.760 and directs timely response.
