Battlefields and Pontoon Crossing at Donchery Meuse

The narrative recounts brutal street fighting near Donchery during a Meuse crossing. Soldiers describe near annihilation in hand to hand combat, the pistol and dagger exchanges, and the harrowing effort to build and salvage pontoon bridges under French artillery and searchlights. A desperate river crossing yields heavy losses, cold, blood, and exhausted endurance as they push to secure the opposite bank and confront continued assault.
