In a crowded council chamber the old administration transfers power to the newly elected city fathers. The ceremony marks the start of a new municipal era with public attendance and official proceedings.
In Alliance a large crowd witnessed Mayor Rodgers and a new council take office Tuesday evening. Retiring Mayor Barnes outlined year-end business and a long list of approved claims. Westover named city attorney and Jeffers and Curtis elected day and night marshals. New committees set. saloon licenses issued to five firms under a May deadline and Sunday closing debated amid quarantine rules.
The city council and board of health met Wednesday night at city hall. F E B Addieh elected president of the council and acting mayor in Mayor Rodgers absence. licenses granted to O D Stevens to reopen his pool hall and to Crystal and Empress for moving pictures. Quarantine lifted after no new smallpox cases. schools to open Monday barring changes. School board to meet Friday to finalize arrangements.
Alliance contractor lands the project to construct a central school building for 30 906 50. The bid notes brick from Edgemont shale will be used.
At the Alliance school board meeting bills opened for the new Central School replacing the burned building. C. Reck won the contract at about 20 906 50 8 dollars with brick from Edgemont property owner Beck. Beck, longtime Alliance contractor, supplied materials and led bids from Ord Kearney and Denver.
An item in Mayth issue from the Alliance Semi-Weekly Times reports the abandonment of the search for E. A. Me followed by the remark that the affair remains unresolved.
A letter from L N McPall asks a newspaper to publish verifiable information about an accident and denies slanderous reports. He claims investigators will dynamite the river on May 5 to recover a body and demands legitimate sources be cited.
Percil Grunskill of Toronto Canada killed himself by drowning in White River near Crawford Nebraska after seeking aid at the Gate City hotel. Relatives later claimed the body. the missing man had sent valuables to his sister in Michigan and the body was recovered on a sandbar in shallow water.
