F E Stearns of Scottsbluff purchases the W W Norton mercantile business in Alliance for about 50 000. Norton, historic founder of Alliance's first store, will focus on real estate and other interests. Stearns brings wife and three children to Alliance and plans a summer goods sale with Henry Steffes assisting. Norton acquires 400 acres irrigated land including 160 acres in California Imperial Valley and rest near Bayard.

C A Dow superintendent of the city light and power department and fondry were taken seriously in early Tuesday morning from ptomaine poisoning caused by eating canned pork and beans Monday evening. Mrs Dow's sister and one child visiting them were also sick. A physician worked hard and all are improving today.
