Remembering Grandparents Alliance Keeps Christmas Spirit Alive

Kids in Alliance prepare a Christmas box for Grandparents Mr. and Mrs. J. J. Watts of Rogersville Missouri. Mr. Watts, turning 77 on New Year’s Day, is noted as a pioneer hunter in the Rockies and Ozarks with elk deer and bear. Frisco locomotives between Kansas City and Memphis still display lights recalling Watts’ deer hunting days.

Forest Lumber Manager Tour Shown Over Sheridan County

A P Lee of Forest Lumber Co Aldatee conducted a two day business trip into Sheridan county by car visiting Spade ranch country north and northeast of Ellsworth. He noted the large corn crop and compared it with Missouri while citing market distance as a top challenge that could improve with the proposed ONeill alliance extension of the BHQ railroad.

Marriage of Miss Emerette Soules to Mr Henderson

One of the season's social events, the marriage of Miss Emerette Diana Soules to Mr John Alexander Henderson of Toronto, Canada, is planned for Wednesday December 15, 1912 at eight o'clock at 422 Cheyenne Avenue. Miss Soules has lived in Alliance nine years with her uncle and aunt, the late Mr and Mrs Nelson Fletcher. Henderson is described as a prosperous young businessman. They will reside at 40 Shaw Street, Toronto after February 1, 1913.

Hampton Residence Nearing Completion in Western Nebraska

The Hampton residence at Sixth Street and Big Horn Avenue is nearly finished. An Omaha decorating firm has completed interior work and furniture will be installed. The 10 room home features modern fixtures and about $15,000 spent on construction and furnishing with move expected around January 15.

King’s western trip ends after car voyage with snowbound detour

Winn King and Den ver Colorado Springs party traveled in a new Cadillac for about three weeks covering several thousand miles. Heavy mountain snow forced the group to turn back to Denver after reaching Colorado Springs, then King continued by train to Mackay Idaho and other western points. King owns a large apple orchard near Blackfoot and has additional western land under improvement.

Local Man Arrested on Drunken Disorderly Charge

Frank Morrison of 901 Toluca Avenue was arrested Tuesday night for being drunk and beating his wife. He was jailed overnight, then released after his wife refused to prosecute. he promised to reform, with prior similar arrests noted.

Maryland man Orn E. Phillips to return as Alliance businessman

Orn E. Phillips of Maryland forner county superintendent of Box Butte county visited Alliance early this week. The Herald reports he plans to resume business interests in Alliance around the first of the year, a prospect welcomed by many local friends.

George Johnson was surprised by a visit from two old friends traveling east. One was Mr. Anderson of Torrington Wyoming and the other Mr. Hayes of Monmouth Illinois. Hayes was accompanying Anderson on the return to Illinois as far as Omaha.

Hargraves couple travel for family visit and county convention

Mr. and Mrs. M. S. Hargraves leave Monday for the eastern part of the state. Mrs Hargraves will stay with her parents in York while Mr Hargraves attends the county officials convention in Lincoln on the 10th, 11th and 12th.

Stolen Horse Recovered After Reward Offered

George Ballers of Scottsbluff reported a stolen horse over a week ago, offering a $50 reward. Deputy Lucas traced a rider in Alliance, and C. C. Smith bought the horse from the thief who fled the country. Halters traveled from Scottsbluff to recover the horse and collect the reward. Smith now offers a reward for the capture of the thief.

Lecture by Dr Wadsworth on temperance at First Presbyterian

Dr Guy W Wadsworth of Denver, associate secretary of the Presbyterian temperance committee, gave a stereoptical lecture last evening at the First Presbyterian church. Admission was free but a silver offering was taken to support the committee. The lecture stressed scientific education on alcohol’s effects and urged practical temperance for personal good.

Brothers Clean Up Fight In Police Court

A free for all brawl erupted in a lockpod Wall Tuesday evening with two young men who appeared to seek trouble. They were restrained by the brothers and the trouble makers were arrested and fined ten dollars plus costs in police court.

Automobile Burned Near Morrill County Roadside Fire Destroys Car

Everett Cook, B. H. Boyd and W. Fr. Kientop were returning to Alliance when Mr. Kientop loosened a blocked carburetor. Cotton waste under the engine ignited, flames engulfed the car, and the $2,000 Mitchell was ruined. The men escaped uninjured and walked to summon another vehicle. The loss fell heavily on Mr. Cook despite partial insurance.

County Officials Visit Lincoln and Kansas City for Convention

County Commissioners Wanek Beck and Hashman traveled to Lincoln for a clerks and county commissioners convention and will assess a local architect. They plan to visit Kansas City to view Rose buildings, then return home via Denver. Mr and Mrs M C Muir plan a southern winter in Minnesota. Mr Hubbell left for Los Angeles and Mrs Hubbell will join soon.
