Mr and Mrs Simmons pressed Herald for a correction after The Times alleged a swindle by James King and his wife. The fake draft came from a Tacoma bank. King tried to buy goods with the worthless draft and later took goods back to the hotel, claiming money by mail.
Mrs A E Cable arrived from the ranch yesterday noon to stay in the city over Sunday with her husband, the genial head salesman at the Horace Bogue store. She will leave Monday or Tuesday for Lake City Iowa to visit her parents and spend the holiday season in the Hawkeye state.
Mr and Mrs George Workman invite guests to a party and dance at their home ten to twelve miles southeast of Alliance on Saturday evening December 20 Supper will be served and a pleasant time is anticipated.
BE Homan and Harry Harbottle known Alliance railroad boys arrived in the city today. They brought in a locomotive for repairs last night and have been active on Maorsland hill this season.
Campbell of Grand Junction backer of Matthews resumes court house construction at Box Butte with full work crew. After a Wednesday meeting with county commissioners bonding company and architect, Campbell will push the project forward selecting Fuller and Mason from Grand Junction to supervise construction and purchasing.
Sheriff Cal Cox and Night Marshal L W Curtis escorted three Alliance prisoners to the Nebraska penitentiary on Thursday December 4. Stanley Naylor a painter and cartoonist, One-eyed Simpson who pled guilty to stewing horses, and Griffith a Morris county native now building chairs after hospital treatment. Curtis visited Fairbury Neb where his twin brother works as a doctor.
He leaves for Ohio for holidays with his family then heads south for the winter. He plans to visit the Isle of Pines and Cuba, returning in spring when milder weather arrives.
A birthday party at Louie Unger’s, southeast of Alliance, drew a large attendance. Guests played cards and dominoes then danced until early morning, followed by a substantial feed for all attendees.
Rebels commanded by Generale Villeras and Castro assault Tampico since eleven o clock Wednesday with heavy artillery. The fighters steadily gain ground from three quarters as foreign residents flee to American, German and British warships in Tampico harbor.
Miss Louise Rankin, district worker, organized a local advisory board in Alliance with President Mrs Alice B Bignell Vice President Mrs EK S Gregg Secretary Miss Mabel Young Treasurer J N Johnston assisted by Mrs G G Ware and H A Carpenter. The group will review child neglect cases and report to the Nebraska Children’s Home Finding Society.
Firemen elected delegates and alternates for the state association meeting at Columbia. Delegates include Geo Nadion and P Romon for Company No 1, B Rowland and A Renewold for Company No 2, and Dwight Zediker Frank Hart for Hook and Ladder. Several veteran delegates and a state fire commissioner were noted. A Pullman car share with western Nebraska departments will be arranged.
Alliance High School prepares for a Friday night basketball game against Kimball U S at the High School Gym. Officials expect a fast and furious contest with fans told to arrive by eight o'clock. Admission is 26 cents or season tickets. The Alliance lineup features Daniel at center Beach and Souter at forwards with Spacht and Kruham as guards.
Charles M Lotapeich dies at 6 30 AM at the family residence in Alliance after four months of illness from meurasthenia. He suffered greatly in the last two weeks. Funeral set for Saturday pending a brother's arrival from Missouri. Rev Normal G Palmer to conduct service.
The Christian church ladies host a housewarming at the pew church building Friday evening. All church friends are invited to attend.
