Health clown Cho Cho enlivens Alliance school crowd

Cho Cho the health clown drew more than a thousand children and curious adults to an outdoor talk at Alliance city hall. He demonstrated proper eating, praised fresh milk, cooked vegetables, and non fried foods, ending with a 15 minute clown act.

Postal workers to carry firearms to guard mails

Postmaster General approves arming all essential postal employees to defend mail against robberies. Chauffeurs on government trucks and screen wagon contractors will also be armed when security demands. Training in weapon use will be provided and federal guidance overrides local licensing requirements.

Salvation Army Faces Small Deficit Despite Help

Salvation Army still needs 70 to finish its Alliance drive after Red Cross directors allocated about 200 to reduce indebtedness and allow a clean slate. An accounting error left funds short, and a few firms not previously canvassed will be asked to cover the remainder.

Dungeon or Throne by St Agnes academy pupils Monday

The drama Dungeon or Throne will be presented by pupils of St Agnes academy at the Imperial on Monday April 25. The historical play set in Diocletian times includes songs drills and pantomime. The grammar department boys promise a minstrel show and a special program is printed for the event.

Alliance Rotary Elects New Directors At Annual Meeting

The Alliance Rotary club elected six directors after amending by laws to six seats, with terms ranging from one to three years. George Griggs reported on the Des Moines district conference and Boy Scout programs, noting a Yellowstone trip plan for Clarinda scouts and a charter setup for a Broken Bow club.

Organize a Baseball League Among Alliance Sunday Schools

Alliance church superintendents and Secretary Geo M Carey organize a baseball league for Methodist Presbyterian Episcopal Baptist Christian and Catholic Sunday schools. Teams will form in meetings with rules limiting players to under sixteen and members with high attendance. The chamber of commerce will award a pennant to the season winner.

Alliance Baseball Association to be Organized Tonight

The Alliance baseball association holds its organizing meeting at the chamber of commerce rooms this evening at 7 30 with officers to be elected. Voters include subscribers to the circulated merchants and citizens paper and prospective contributors. Wresting match arrangements include Pete Sauer of Alliance vs Anton Wrublovske of Carper Wyoming at the roof garden April 29 with proceeds to aid the association.

Scottish Rite Masons See Record Reunion Class Expected

Scottish Rite Masons anticipate a large reunion in May with degrees from the fourth to the thirty second to be conferred. The event is set for May 11 to 13 and is expected to attract over a hundred candidates. Masons have formed one man committees to secure applications and have been touring western Nebraska towns to recruit prospects.

Missionary Society Meeting of Box Butte Presbytery in Alliance

The twenty seventh annual session of the Box Butte presbyterial missionary society convened at the hot Presbyterian church in Alliance with about forty in attendance. The program covered welcome addresses, papers on religious work, round tables, music, devotions, reports, and election of officers and delegates for the coming synodical meeting.

Alliance Girl and Dancing Partner Present Program Here

Miss Helen Hewett daughter of Judge and Mrs Hewett and her dancing partner Miss Eleanor Frampton of Lincoln offered a four-number program of classic and eccentric dances at the Imperial theater to a packed house Tuesday evening. They repeated at the roof garden with additional numbers and costumes. The pair have signed with the Annette Kellerman company for twenty four weeks of vaudeville in Australia and planned to leave Thursday for San Francisco to join the company.

Alliance Lions Club hears city manager plan and praise

Tuesday luncheon featured City Manager candidate W. R. Harper and John Henteberry with brief talks. Kemmish outlined goals and methods, pledging impartial, square dealing and cooperation from members. H. S. Villers praised the city manager form, predicting a successful administration under Kemmish.

Appeal Filed in Supreme Court by Zediker in Larceny Case

Urban R. Zediker convicted in Box Butte county of larceny appeals to the Supreme Court. A brief in his defense was filed Monday. He allegedly took a diamond pin belonging to Mrs. A. G. Isaacson of Alliance, traced to him, and he claims the state kept him jailed without chance to identify the true owner. His lawyers argue the evidence of his whereabouts is not credible enough to negate innocence beyond reasonable doubt. Grace Johnson of the Golden Rule left Thursday for Sidney then Denver, planning about a week away.
