The Courier defends public discussion of charges against Mr. Smith, supervisor candidate. It argues for itemized, transparent bills and notes salary increases since 1897, comparing Smith with predecessor Mr. Chubb. Critics claim overpayments, unclear work, and the district’s limited scope.

Resurrection stunt at fair ends in uproar and losses
A traveling so called fakir advertised a resurrection act at the fair. A man was hypnotized buried in a coffin with air tubes and charged ten cents for a peep. He supposedly would be paid one dollar per hour, but rain spoiled the show and the buried man was left dead until revived. The operator fled without paying. The newspaper notes its rival printed 200 admission cards and kept pay.
