Davenport October 2. Charged with forging two instruments Garfield Beuthten brother of Arnold Beuthem formerly employed in the New Liberty banks was arrested here yesterday afternoon. A $70 check was cashed at a local bank with Paul Berndt’s name written on the back. Berndt says the endorsement is a forgery and Beutkein is charged with obtaining the money on the check.

Reil Matthews Found Guilty of First Degree Murder

In Des Moines Oct 21 Neil Matthews slayer of Roland Diggs and Walter Travis was found guilty of first degree murder with a life imprisonment recommendation. He showed no emotion at sentencing and will go to Fort Madison once final. appeal unlikely. The trial followed the Diggs home killings at Ninth and Park.

Mason City Man Killed and Buried After Yard Incident

Mason City records note Robert Hamilton, master mechanic for the C. M. & St. P., died after being injured while crawling under a box car string in Minneapolis yards. He survived four days, aged 65. He previously served as foreman in Mason City and Sanborn. His sons Thomas and Edward work as engineers on the Sioux City and Des Moines divisions of the same railroad.

Paul Forges Bolt Yeomen Convention in Des Moines Split

The lone Des Moines Yeomen convention dissolved after a row at 7:30 PM. The Koch faction reassembled at the Wellington hotel and elected forty delegates to the November national conclave in Colorado Springs pledged to William Koch. The Paul faction denounced yesterday’s convention as illegal and asserted February delegates were the official ones. Paul offered harmony if Koch would reciprocate.

Odd Fellows vote to rebuild Mason City Orphans' Home

In Cedar Rapids on October 21 the Odd Fellows' grand lodge funded $45,000 to rebuild Mason City's Orphans' Home. The plan includes a fireproof new structure, plus future plans for a separate home for the aged. Trustees report $28,000 insurance salvage, and work to begin immediately under $43,000 direct trustees authorization.
