Clarence Carr, 12, accused of robbing a fellow prisoner of $5.90 while awaiting trial in Woodbury county jail. Stepson of Hotel Madison proprietor Gilbert C. Carr, who calls him a natural born thief. He was arraigned before Judge Gaynor and ordered sent to the reform school.
Clinton Oct 11 Mrs Edward H Thurston nee Annie Crawford moved from Anamosa penitentiary where she served four years for the murder of John Diller to the Independence State Hospital for the Insane. The board declared her hopelessly insane and her death was momentarily expected as she is transported to the hospital.
Sioux City report says W. E. Brown, president of the defunct First National Bank of Storm Lake, was found guilty on thirty counts of fraudulently banking by false entries and reports. The trial spanned a week in federal court. two indictments stood, with a minimum five year sentence and possible ten year terms per count. Sentencing set for Friday. Brown may appeal.
Sioux City reports Judge Henry T. Teed sentenced W. B. Brown, former president of the National Bank of Storm Lake, to five years in Anamosa state prison for the government case. Attorneys said no appeal planned. time may be reduced for good behavior to three years and nine months.
Des Moines reports indicate Frank Shercliffe has vanished after not being seen at his workplace for two to three days. The case follows his prior involvement with the Dennison matter and his fear of imminent danger, with authorities and Oklahoma warrants looming. His wife remains in Des Moines, and Shercliffe appears to have fled toward unseen locations, possibly to evade capture.
In Sioux City a hack at the Arcade hotel scene ends with EB. H. Darrow, 60, shooting his son’s wife Lillian Darrow, 25, then killing himself with a right temple shot. They were found dead in the carriage after a stop at the police station. The motive remains undisclosed. EB. H. Darrow and Lillian had come to town October 10 and returned recently before the fatal ride toward Milwaukee station.
Sheldon Oct. 11 Authentic word here confirms Hon. George R. Whitmer once county representative and now Sioux City resident will contest the seat of George Youde, who was named as Whitmer’s successor last week. Democratic lawyer Hon. Jones A. Parsons of Rock Rapids serves as Whitmer’s counsel and expresses confidence of success before the next house of representatives.
