Drowning of Clarence Wallick Shocks Town
Clarence Wallick, 22, drowned while boating with A A Leckey on a river trip above town. Despite hours of search with boats, hooks, and rakes, Wallick’s body was recovered downstream. He was a Tipton, Iowa native, Spanish War veteran, and first lieutenant in the naval militia. Funeral held at the Methodist church, burial in Tipton. His life insured for about 4500, with a 1000 policy taken out days before death.

Funeral Sermon and Burial For Chipperfield Wife
Chipperfield preached the funeral sermon and the remains were laid beside his wife of sixty years. Mr and Mrs Fred Puller buried their eight year old son Harold in Algona cemetery Monday afternoon. The Fullers were visiting friends at West Atkinson Iowa when the death occurred last Saturday from a snag in the foot leading to blood poisoning and lockjaw.

Deputies and a Bancroft creditor sought mortgage records in Algona to determine what was mortgaged. They found Allen’s property largely cleared out, likely due to a wet season and poor crop prospects pushing him to vanish before creditors.

Hairdresser Wilson Arrested For Stealing A Switch
A hair dresser named Wilson at the Thorington is accused of taking a foot long switch valued at about 50 cents after losing track of its owner. Sheriff McDonald recovered the switch at Garner after a warrant and a payout of about $10 for expenses. Traveling shows caution to Algona ladies regarding switches.

Death of Mr Tilden Foster in Algona Region
Mr Tilden Foster aged 86 or 87 died last Saturday at the home of his daughter Mrs Martha Stebbles, with whom he resided after his wife’s death eight years ago. A native of Hoyland born Hastings November 30 1816 he married there in 1840 and moved to New York in 1844. In 1865 he moved with his family to this county taking an 80 acre homestead near Lone Rock before moving to Algona twenty two years ago. He leaves three sons and five daughters, only Mrs Stebbing remaining in the area. described as quiet and honest and long respected.
