The county board met with full membership and filled several posts including constable in Burt and election judges. It authorized Burt Telephone to erect poles and ordered advance fee collection in civil cases. Road matters, including Blackford bill road and grade petitions, dominated the session with several decisions and postponements. A large exodus of students was noted with many heading to Cornell, Grinnell, Ames, and other schools for the year.
Mary McDougal Thomas known as Grandma Thomas died Wednesday morning after a lingering illness. Born July 28 1816 in Washington County New York she married Walter Thomas about 65 years ago. They settled in Dakota City in 1859 and were pioneers of Humboldt County. Her funeral was held in Humboldt after services in Dakota City. She left several children including Mrs Hannah Tellier Mrs Margaret Walston and Mrs Mary Newman. Her brothers Luther Thomas of Colorado and David John and Charles of Humboldt survived her.

The Episcopal Church in town will be consecrated next Friday, September 19, after eleven years of effort. Jo Fraser and Mrs Etta Adams were arrested in Ledyard on charges of enticing a child Loretta Phillips, daughter of Mrs Geo Shaddick, away from Riverdale and Algona. The trio disappeared after a walnut gathering plan and were located by the Ledyard marshal. They waived examination, bonds set at 200 dollars, awaiting grand jury action. Loretta returned home with her parents after the proceedings.

Enrollment across all grades stands near last year, with high school peaking. Lists full staff and classroom assignments for several schools, plus a long list of railroad and territorial travel rate notices for September and October.
The Iowa Central announces a special Des Moines bound train from Algona and St Benedict on Monday Sept 15 leaving Algona at 1003 am and arriving Des Moines by 380 pm.
