Albany Woman's Club Meeting Highlights Safety Topic

Albany Woman's Club met Saturday with county president Mrs Ida Morrison and Mrs Alice Blodgett of Morrison, Mrs Jessie Sean of Fulton, and Miss Dorothy Fenai Park Illinois among attendees. The program centered on safety with a White Belt paper by Miss Suilhammer and songs by Miss Sara Jayne Fleming, followed by talks on women in politics and club federation progress.

Mrs Clyde Rowland of Newton township received word Tuesday that her brother Robert W Booth of Kalispell Mont is seriously ill with no hope of recovery and a second message at 9:00 p m announced his death at 6:10 p m He had been ill since the last holidays A brother Walter I Booth of Mankato Minn will attend the rites Mrs Booth will not go west Albany friends and relatives are saddened by the news More particulars next week

Family Gathering at Dr Rimond Home

Elizabeth Van Bibber of Savanna Illinois and her son Herbert Van Bibber in San Antonio on furlough joined a Sunday gathering at Dr and Mrs Rimond home. Guests included Mr and Mrs E J Dan Mr and Mrs Olds and Lawrence Olds. The Van Bibbers returned to Savanna Monday evening.

Mother's Birthday Observance Attended by Albany Couple

Mr and Mrs Floyd E Wilson Albany telephone manager and wife traveled to Rock Island Sunday to join relatives in celebrating Ella Wilson's 67th natal anniversary. They were joined by Mrs Eleanor Culbertson and Mrs Harriett Lewis who visited Mr and Mrs Fred Mueller and daughter Eleanor. The party returned to Albany Monday morning.

Morrison Friends Here Sunday

Dr and Mrs P H Simpson accompanied by Dr and Mrs R E Robinson all of Morrison were Albany visitors Sunday afternoon. The Simsons with Mrs Sarah Simpson and the Robinsons visited relatives and called on other friends. All are former Albianians and Albany friends welcomed them.

Canine Bite Hurts Barry Lewis. Publisher Dan Winger Ill

Barry Lewis sustained a serious leg bite from a small dog belonging to Ray Cole and required medical care. Albany friends report Dan H. Winger, Clinton's veteran publisher, has suffered a severe hemorrhage and is in his eightieth year after recently turning 80.

Couple killed as auto struck by passenger train near Morrison

Mr and Mrs Carl Johnson of Morrison vicinity died Sunday afternoon when their car was hit by a fast through passenger train on the Northwestern line east of Fulton. The wreckage stretched along the track for about a mile before the train stopped. They married in 1920 and had no children. Both born in Whiteside county. George C Dixon, candidate for State Senator, urged all to vote in the August 8 primary, noting polls open 6:90 a m to 7:00 p m.

Albany residents shared weekend visits with neighbors and relatives across towns. Falton guests included Mr and Mrs Dave Schipma and Mr and Mrs Jake Lyzenga. Handell and Rose families traveled to Kankakee and Colona. Mrs Dice remained in Raritan to care for her mother. Harriett Kay Myrtle Peterson returned home after visits to Colona and Moline. Will Foster and his three daughters visited Mrs Mary Slaymaker, their new tenants on her Newton township farm.

Damages Settled For Slocum Kay Fire

A week after a fire damaged the L. L. Slocum farmhouse in Albany township the Ray Kay family was paid by their insurer J. E. Starbuck. Adjuster visited and the policy checks were delivered, with both Slocum and Kay satisfied and repairs begun promptly.

Sterling and ThomSon Meeting and Purina Demo Attendances

Lambert Luzenga Albany manager of the Potter Brothers branch and assistant Roy E. Jordan attended a business meeting at Sterling last Wednesday evening. The Clarence Juist family relocates to Morrison today while neighbors settle in. A corn demonstration at the town hall drew several men sharing seed corn tips. Mrs. Addie Stowell visited Morrison friends. Mrs. Alice Knapp improves after a sister visit in Oelwein. Whiteside County Farm Bureau Adopts New Publicity Plan

The Whiteside County Farm Bureau board approved a publicity program at a recent meeting. They will publish a monthly issue named Whiteside County Farm Bureau News starting with March. The bureau will also provide semi weekly and weekly news to all local papers and receive free government extension service updates.

Non High School District Election Set for April 12

Albany precinct No 11 will hold election Saturday April 12 at the town hall. Whiteside county has twelve voting precincts not maintaining a four year high school. Sterling Siren Tower Incomplete Wiring At Fire Station

The fire siren tower and siren are installed at the Sterling fire station but wiring is unfinished. Once completed, the whistle will mark the hours at 7 am 12 noon and 6 pm as in the past, signaling the village.

Quiet Wedding Anniversaries Noted In Local Area

On Tuesday March 11 Mr and Mrs Willian E Rowland observed their 54th wedding anniversary at their Albany area farm home. On Wednesday March 12 Mr and Mrs Geo Heffelfinger marked their 35th anniversary but no festivities were held due to his ill health. Out of town news reports Mrs FR E Dice and companion traveled to Raritan Illinois to visit relatives and Mrs C A Olds joined them briefly before returning. Percy Winans visited Rock Island on the return trip.

Minstrel Show Delights Port Byron Audience

The thirty black faced Swanee minstrels of the American Legion and Auxiliary of Coe Lamb Post Port Byron Illinois presented a lively program at Community Hall. Under Marie Trent Keeley the group delivered jokes choruses solos and dances with Curt Keeley as interlocutor. Local performers Coynes provided encores and the Creole girls performed Painting the Clouds with Sunshine. Receipts were about 84 with proceeds after expenses supporting the Albany Presbyterian Industrial Society.

Funeral rites for Morrison resident Mrs Montague

Mrs Mary Tucker attended the funeral of her sister-in-law Mrs Ben Montague in Morrison Illinois. Also present were her granddaughter Mrs Lee Sharer grandsons Carl and Oswald Tucker and Mrs Lily Snyder of Clinton. Montague died March 6 at Jane Lamb hospital Clinton Iowa at age 66. Services were at the late home at 2 and at the Methodist church at 2 30. Burial Grove Hill cemetery.

March group of M E stewards sponsor luncheon and program

Mrs George Heffelfinger chairs the March group of Methodist church stewards planning a luncheon on Friday March 21 at the church basement dining hall. A fine program will follow the luncheon which costs adults 50 cents and children under 10 twenty cents. Menu includes nut loaf scalloped potatoes creamed lima beans rolls jelly pickles pie and coffee. Mrs Mabel Pollard leads the entertainment committee.

Blair A. Phillips of Davenport sues Standard Oil Co for 1200 damages after his automobile, total loss in a collision with a company oil truck on highway 99 near Le Claire Iowa, in early August 1928.
