Industrial Society Holds All Day Session at Mrs Slaymaker Home
The Presbyterian Industrial Society met in their work room at the Mrs Rana volo Snyder building for an all day session. At noon they moved to the home of Aunt Mary Slaymaker for a covered dish dinner with invited guests. A quilt belonging to Mrs Martha Lewis of Danville Iowa was shown as they work on it.

Miss Alice Marie Smith of Monroe and Ernest Elliott of Monroe were united in a single ring ceremony at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Horace Sanders in Albany witnessed by the bride's relatives and friends. After the ceremony the couple traveled to Monroe and will visit Whitewater Milwaukee and Chicago before settling on a farm near Monroe. The St Patrick s dance at Community Hall Monday evening drew a good crowd despite bad weather. Sponsored by the Volunteer Wire department, several out of town attendees joined in a fine evening with Weiss orchestra of Clinton providing the music. Bright Lights Blind Auto Driver in Near-Fatal Crash
Lawrence Drury escaped serious injury after his car blinded by a bright oncoming headlamp veered off the Albany Cordova road near Riverside, struck a tree, injuring his nose and ankle. He walked home aided by friends as the vehicle’s body remained damaged but the engine and tires survived. he works at John Deere Harvester Co. and stays with his sister.

Mr. and Mrs. Maurice Drury and their daughter visited East Moline Friday with Mrs. Ralph Gayne and family. They toured the expanding East Moline high school, soon to accommodate rising enrollments, and enjoyed the scenic overlook of Father of Waters and nearby lands. Tax reductions noted for 28 Albany taxpayers
Twenty eight Albany residents received tax notices last week showing a lower rate than last year. The city tax is sixty six cents, the Erie tax is one dollar seven cents, Fulton ninety five cents, Prophetstown one dollar twelve cents, Morrison one dollar forty five cents, Tampico eighty two cents, Lyndon sixty five cents, Colent seventy nine cents. Whiteside total assessed taxes amount to one million five hundred ninety eight thousand eight hundred eight dollars fifty nine cents, including educational three hundred forty five items, roads and other taxes. Railroad taxes for the county area are much reduced this year.

Remember the Days of Lincoln Remember the Days of Lincoln
Jeremiah and Zachariah Hess twins who served in the Civil War celebrated their 85th birthday near Sterling Illinois on March 16. They enlisted at 15 after being born March 16 1845 near Harbor Safe Pennsylvania and recall a Lincoln visit to their picket camp along the Baltimore and Ohio railroad. Both are in good health and long settled in Jordan Township Whiteside County Illinois.

Joslin Post Office Retained After Kettle River Overflow
The U S Postal department considered discontinuing the Joslin post office in Rock Island county. Closing would have shifted patronage to Hillsdale route and cut Osborn off during floods. Local patrons lobbied Washington, and the Joslin office will continue to operate.

Helping Hand Quilting Club Meets at Burns Home
The Helping Hand society of the Methodist church met Thursday at Mrs. W. D. Burns home with large attendance. Progress was made on a quilt by Mrs. Austin of Port Byron vicinity. Two new members, Mrs. John Kennedy and Mrs. Lee Sharer, joined. The group discussed a food sale planned for April 19 before Easter. The meeting will continue quilt work at Burns home.
