Social Men Hold Meeting on Fulton Drainage District

Engineers and district officials met with A M Blodgett to approve excavations and furnishing for drainage works. Clarke Construction Co of Fulton awarded ditch excavation and culvert work, with concrete walls by Ghum Brothers and tile laying by Sheffield Drain Tile Co of Sheffield Illinois.

Albany Woman’s Club Delegation Attends County Meeting

Delegation from the Albany Women’s Club traveled to Fulton on Wednesday to join the Whiteside County Federation of Women’s Clubs at the Fulton Coliseum. A strong safety program and a well attended lunch were highlighted. Mrs Barnum Co. president gave a safety talk and Ms M Silvis of Rock Island outlined public welfare work. The district convention is planned for May in Erie as area clubs prepare for the event.

Industrial officers honored to succeed them

The Industrial society of the Pros-Wlevian church extended the honor reelection of the entire staff officers for the ensuing year. Mrs Sadie Wild president, Mrs Farrell Lewis first vice president, second vice president, Mrs Anna Wood secretary, Mrs Da Slaymaker treasurer, Mrs Mary Olds. This group have worked so satisfactorily together during the past year that the society were indeed weused that they succeed themselves in this year.

Garden Plain Friends Attend Dinner Gathering

Mrs Alvin Slaymaker and Mrs Merle Robeson hosted a dinner with the Tite girl and Mrs Addie Stow in Garden Plain. Attendees expressed concern as one participant spoke of leaving the house amid despair and a timespan around September.

Fire destroys Strating residence on village edge

Firefighters battled high winds as flames engulfed the Strating home on the Newton township edge opposite the village park. The roof and upper rooms burned, first floor damaged by smoke and water, household goods removed, origin undetermined, insurance with partial coverage, owners plan rebuild in a smaller home. Building erected by Amos and Edna Pletcher 26 years ago.

Rock Island Fireman Injured Battling Blaze

Mrs. George Huggins reports her son Charles Short of the Rock Island Fire Department was injured Monday while fighting a fire. A falling beard struck him about the head and shoulders. Though in pain, the firefighter was not hospitalized and is resting at home.

Visits Clinton to See Ill Brother

Mr. Willian TM. MccGrath of Melrose Iowa motored to Clinton Sunday to visit his brother John McGrath who is very ill in the hospital. The brother was not allowed a visit. These men are former Albany boys with many friends in this vicinity.

Coffey Col lery held services at 10 Sunday morning with Rev. Johnsan in charge and Sunday school through 11 30. Confirmation planned for June 29 at Immaculate Conception Fulton by Bishop Hoban. Last Thursday morning Mrs. Rose Ilaak fell stepping from her rear door at Hillsdale and suffered a double fracture of the bones in her left leg just above the ankle. Dr. S B Dimond of Albany attended and set the bones. the patient is reported doing as well as can be expected.

Biblical drama The Triple Tragedy at Methodist services

The Sunday school class of Mrs. Alberta Huggins presented The Triple Tragedy a biblical drama at the Methodist church Sunday evening. C H Duvall arranged and dramatized the sermon. Bennett Tucker son of Mr and Mrs Harvey N Tucker of Albany township, a Clinton garage night shift mechanic, misplaced his keys and later found his new Chevrolet missing. Police conducted a search and located the uninjured car abandoned in a school yard outside Clinton, amid a minor prank.
