New York Telegram reports President Coolidge writes to Republican Committee chairman Nicholas Murray Butler that he will not accept the nomination under any circumstances. The emphatic letter ends belief that he might run if urged.
Petersburg council chooses to complete the auditorium in the new addition to ease school congestion. Census shows 224 school age children with enrollment expected around 250 next year, prompting funding for the project at roughly $800 with finishing work separate.
Seattle June 6. Steamer Alameda sailed for Skagway and way ports last night with 157 passengers including 17 round trippers 61 for Skagway and 17 for Wrangell. Passengers listed for Petersburg include Miss G Gaustad Owen West W L Hayes Spencer Hayes Chas Henry H Adams G J Nistler Frank Barsett Mrs S J Mayer and Mrs Esther Frederickson The Admiral Watson sailed 7 morning for Kodiak with 73 passengers on board None listed for Petersburg.
The line steamer Queen sailed this morning for Skagway with a passenger list including 143 paid travelers and 33 for Kake. The Petersburg passengers include K Obata W M Pelfranch Fillipines and Japanese.
The Petersburg News reports the Dredge Butyard II completed mooring improvements at the Public Dock. A 60 foot wide channel extends from the dock to deep water in the Narrows, enabling vessels to moor at almost any tide. Minor delay occurred when a dipper cable broke during work one morning.
Local Republicans organize an anti Hoover movement to block his nomination at the national convention. L L Emmerson Republican governor candidate of Illinois is named generalissimo of the group. Meetings this morning included supporters of Lowden Watson and Curtis.
Delegates failed to attend the meeting delaying plans for the Fourth of July celebration. Civic groups are asked to appoint two members each to the general committee to organize contests speeches demonstrations and music. The committee meets at 8 pm to finalize arrangements and secure posters and supplies.
The monoplane Southern Cross arrived in Suva Fiji from Hawaii after a 35 hour 27 minute voyage covering 8138 miles. The journey began in Oakland California 2400 miles earlier with a stop at Maui before planning to depart for Melbourne or Sydney amid prior Australian criticism.
Police official B Severyns and county purchasing agent Richard W. Sweet were named to oversee water service but a deputy indicated the appointment would not be confirmed, delaying the expected leadership change.
The U S Supreme Court upheld the tapping of telephone wires by Prohibition Officers and using the evidence in court to convict, in a 5 to 4 decision. The ruling came in the Olmstead case from Seattle, with justices split on the method.

City council extended the deadline to Monday June 18 for applications to fill the tax assessor position as the current start date around June 25 approached. Several candidates were suggested but no action taken at the Monday meeting.
City council plans a quick call for bids on a new dam at the water works after inspecting proposed sites. Dam builders Julius Tollifsen and Charley Cripes advised options including a concrete foundation and earth dam. Public Works to stake lines for water system extension to the South Addition to refine bids.
June 7 delegates from Alaska to the Republican National Convention left Seattle for Kansas City to represent the Territorial Republicans in nominating the next Republican candidate. They were elected on a platform opposing Hoover.
Delegate Dan Sutherland sailed from Seattle on the Victoria to Nome to begin his campaign for reelection to Congress. From Nome he will move to Fairbanks Central Alaska and Southeast Alaska to close his bid, aboard a ship carrying 301 passengers including Ira Norton Carl Lomen L Baldwin Samuel Gaylord and G A Paxton.
